Where he needs work: Richardson rotated every other series last season with now-Arizona State quarterback Emory Jones, so he hasn't had many opportunities to remain on the field for an extended period of time. And Richardson had five interceptions in the eight games during which he saw action. His decision-making centers around confidence in his arm strength, which can get him into trouble often. Being more decisive and demonstrating more comfort and consistency when playing within the confines of the pocket are things that scouts want to see next season. Why I'm intrigued with his first-round potential: Richardson will be in a new offense under new coach Billy Napier as he enters his redshirt sophomore season as the unquestioned starter. And Richardson has the potential to generate excitement because of his high-end traits. But right now, it's simply only that.

I’m gonna go with Spencer Rattler. Physical tools I’d put him against anyone. Between the ears is going to determine how successful he will be. Im hoping he’s learned to be more mature and level headed, after what took place at Oklahoma.
I don't think too many people outside of hopeful Gamecocks fans would pick put him anywhere near this list of prospective highly drafted NFL QBs. He's definitely going to be considered undersized as a prospect, doesn't have a great resume to date and as you mentioned has some issues he's carrying with him.
lol doesn’t have a great resume to date? He was the preseason Heisman favorite going into this season, before he fell apart. In 2020 he threw for over 3,000 yards, 28 tds and 7 int’s. Led his team to the big 12 title game and beat Iowa State, then went on to beat Florida in the Cotton Bowl. I’ll stand by with what I said.. the kid has all the tools in the world to be just as good as anyone in the country, if his head has come out of his butt. As far as height.. that still matters? Brock Osweiler was 6’8. Russell Wilson is around 6’0. Who you picking?
Rattlers hype last year came from picking apart the Todd Grantham gators defense. A bunch of guys opted out and SR looked all world. He was vastly over rated and proved it. We will know soon enough.
I mean, if Rattler gets any interest, i imagine his former backup and now USC starter Caleb Williams should be at the top of the list. I realize he was a true freshman, but he was pretty incredible.
Mm hmm ... Right. That matters. And remember: even if he was the Heisman favorite, it does not a top-5 draft QB make. That's a good year, for sure. Is it top 5 QB, particularly in light of what happened after it? No, not really. Yes, height still matters a great deal for the draft. Average height of the top 5 QBs last 10 years is 6'3.25" - and that's NFL measurements. Russell Wilson had 3 arguably great seasons and one on par with Rattler's. His last was phenomenal. Despite all this he wasn't picked up until the 3rd round because ... well, you know. Spencer Rattler has had one ok season. If he sets the single season passer efficiency rating this year you might have an argument, but again even Wilson wasn't a top-5 pick. I get being excited about an incoming player, but realistically at this point he's not a top-5 QB draft pick.
Russell Wilson allowed guys like Kyler Murray and Baker Mayfield to be drafted high. Until recently, no one would spend a high first rounder on a short QB. That said, with everything equal, taller QB's get drafted first.
Since when are college quarterbacks with 2 years of eligibility leaving for the NFL? He had 6 TD passes and 5 Ints, but you can just look and see his potential.

And keep in mind both of those guys were Heisman winners (Mayfield in the top 3 twice). That's pretty much the caliber you have to have to get drafted high as a 6'1" or under QB.
Spencer Rattler is a massive douche and one of the most arrogant, crap teammates in recent memory. He’s a short Ryan Leaf, everyone will hate him in the NFL.
You said he didn’t have a great resume, yet he’s proven he can put numbers up… that’s my argument. I get that he plays for lowly South Carolina, but come on. The guy was a preseason Heisman candidate for a reason. We will see how he does this year, but he’s got something to prove at a program that will never be under pressure to win a national title, or even a conference title.
The context of the story and thread is NFL draft prospects. So far Rattler has one good (not great!) year and is undersized. That's not a good enough resume to make a top 5 2023 draft prospect list. You might be arguing he'll be good for USC this year, but that's a different topic altogether. I think he's fine, but right now has a similar resume to Chris Leak going into 2005. A good year, Heisman preseason hype yet undersized. Leak went UDFA coming off a national title victory. I agree with the points upthread - there are some people who have made being sub 6'2" less of a non-starter than it once was, but size helps and a lack of it hurts. If Rattler had a resume like Murray or Mayfield (multiple trips to NY) that's a different story. But he doesn't. As of right now he's middle-of-the-pack.
