I read the various topics, but I haven’t watched the videos yet. There are a whole bunch of them. Then it goes on to Billy Napier in the same format.
Emphasis on coaching rebounding. Will be a focus in practice. Sounds like we can expect a big improvement in rebounding this coming season. Also mentioned lack of passion and excitement in the program when he arrived. He mentioned that as a reason for bringing Taureen Green to the program.
SS stopped him short during his job interview, saying, "Todd--I'll call you 'Todd', 'cause you ain't 'Coach Todd' yet--don't get started on the camera-flipping thing with me. Just don't. I understand that's at the top of your list of "must haves," but I got enough troubles with that on the Interweb with this psycho fan base. You have no idea." By the way, this is a factual account of the discussion. I was able to secure the audio recording of the interview. Don't question my sources.
The lack of passion and excitement was something I always suspected-as good of an ambassador as Mike White was, it seemed to me he just sucked the life of out of guys. Going all the way back to the Jalen Hudson benching, he just destroyed that kid. Hudson averaged almost 16 a game his first year here (on a very good team), and almost went pro. He decided to come back for his senior year, and gets benched kind of early in the year for not putting enough effort out on D. When he did get into games, Hudson was on an ultra short leash. He was lucky to last 3 minutes out on court. Literally. It was White's "my way or the highway" attitude on EVERYTHING from analytics, to Defense, not playing freshman (Kowacie, the Russian), to changing systems, players transferring out; that I think took a collective toll on all his guys, and the program as a whole. I've never seen a team repeatedly come out SO flat and lifeless so many times. The Texas Southern Loss. Just so many awful first half performances. I think the players got to the point where they were scared to make a mistake. They had to think too much about what Mike wanted them to do, that they couldn't relax, and just play the kind of basketball they were capable of. Just my two cents, but I thought Golden's comment was very instructive as to what happened under the prior "regime."
White told Hudson he wasn’t allowed to do a shot-pass. Jordan, the Big O, Bird all the greats use this weapon. I’ve hated White since then. Hopefully Coach Golden has our team prepared to kill Georgia every year. With Reeves coming back this will surely help.
It was a post game interview with a broadcaster can’t remember if it was a Gator network or ESPN. You don’t think I’d lie do you? I’m sure it’s findable somewhere. White it a TERRIBLE coach. So glad he’s at Georgia.
Grab a bottle of Crown, pour a shot into a "shot" glass - Slide it down the bar to the hottest chick sitting at the bar, ...........thats called: "A shot pass"
You go up like you're shooting a jumper. Instead of shooting, you pass it to some guy who is open for a better shot. Very effective, I don't know why it's not used a lot. Or why some would would advise against it, seeing how guys like Pistol Pete and Larry Bird used it with great effect. I used to use it in pickup games, albeit not at the same level as Maravich and Bird.
One example. It’s an easy way to get it into your post man as the defender gets ready for a rebound and boxes out. https://m.youtube.com/shorts/EovDZBk0f5Q
