tis gotta be all four rounds right?
Meantime, we are in eighth at the moment, but only by a stroke over 2 teams, and two shots over one more.

I assume they would break a tie for 8th with a playoff on the course, weather permitting.

Rough stretch making the turn, now 3 out of 8th. But 18 and 1 are 2 of the toughest holes this week and Arky and Auburn still have to go through them.

Oddly the front nine seems to be playing more difficult than the back early on today, but likely doesn't matter as pretty much all the contenders for 8th are playing with us or behind us (Georgia Tech who started on the front is currently 11 out of 8th).

3 guys really collapsed on the last nine. A bit disappointing, but looks like we'll finish 11th, a respectable showing overall.

In isolation nothing wrong with this year.

But the crappy part is that it’s good enough to keep Deacon around. He still doesn’t have a single top 10 finish in his 8 years (Barring a collapse by someone today). And this is only the second time I think that he has even made the last 15 in his tenure, and last time we finished 15th.
Even USF has made the last 8 in his time here.

and I don’t think either the men or women have finished top 10 in nearly a decade, maybe longer. Women have missed nationals the last two years, which should be a unicorn event, and never back to back years.

Just frustrating to watch as a whole…Stricklin embraces mediocrity as his friend and comfort blanket apparently.

edit: we finished tied for 10th.

Biondi and Dubois play the front nine 3 under
Lin, Castillo and Wilkes play it 17 over......Castillo was all over the place this week. Kind of sums up his career at UF so far, Frusrating because he does so well in high profile events outside college

    Deacon gets long term extension.

He has never made it to match play in 8 years.

I dont like his recruiting. I've seen too many really good golfers in FL go elsewhere then we end up with guys who are son's of some big boosters eating up space on the roster. I could name them but wont.

In golf, you must have top notch internal competition to be able to go out to a tourney with hot hands, not 4 good players and one playing on his own for experience. You need 6 vying week after week to be the 4.

Disagree....we have 13 on the roster, so one or two legacies isn't a factor. If you look at the recruiting measurements we probably stack up with just about anybody from a talent standpoint. It just hasn't translated to the course on a consistent basis.

It does not make a difference if we have 13 or 25 on the team. The "must" in golf is 6 real big time players. Golfers practice every week, they play against each other for real to "qualify" to play in the coming tourney. The hot hands go play w/ the exception being the guy or gal (women's side) who won last week or has been in top 5 last couple of tourneys. There has to be that "edge" of competition within the team.

With only 3 or 4 or even 5 "good" golfers on a team, your team is not going to win a Natl title. Because in golf, even a great one will have one bad round in a tourney.

The internal competition on the team is a huge factor. See the story of Patrick Reed at Uga in which he was accused of cheating in practice /qual rounds to get to go play in coming tourneys. Booted from Uga.

I can name 2 recent UF golfers on the men's team who had Daddy influence to get on team....neither was the best or even 2nd best in their respective geographic jr golfer's market. I was very surprised that both went and played for UF. But neither excelled.

I fully agree with the premise....my point is we have exactly what you are looking for on the roster.
Castillo, Yin, Padgin, Biondi, Wilkes, Dubois would all be considered elite

Manzoni, Leal, Debove some nice international

Carrying a couple of walk ons who may not contribute doesn't bother me...they may develop, if not nothing really lost.

Agree...except, I dont know if we should consider those 6 elite. Elite jr golfers win AJGA tourneys, get in US Jr Amateur National tourney by qualifying, win their state Jr title (or finish in top 2-3 for a couple of years) etc.

I remember a jr golfer about 10 yrs ago who really did look "elite". So I did some research back then and this Jr golfer WD'd for injury or flu bug in almost every tourney in which the golfer played a poor first round. Whoa Nellie. Thus, that jr golfer had lots of top 10s, top 5s and several wins. But the overall, by extrapolating it all out, was not elite, simply above avg. Went to a small college, played 3 years but not in all or even most of the team's tourneys.

I think all those top 6 guys meet the criteria or elite international play. Dubois probably the weakest, Fl 1A state champ and state match play champ.....but he won the SEC tourney and played well all season so think he fits into the list

So we may have 5 or 6...well that being the case then something is wrong. To me, with the zillions of golf courses in FL, no snow in winter, the number of pros who live here (means you can run into them on courses), the attractiveness of playing in a good climate in G-ville, then why cant we get a program that plays for the NC.

Is it our course, facilities, coaching staff, or ??? I dont know.

We have 5 NCs in men’s golf. Clearly we’re capable.
