if we are not top ten in 2023 that is a red flag. Bump classes are typically the class most good recruiters excel in. Top ten should be the minimum expectation in my opinion.

That's usually the case, but the old logic is out the window at this point.

    Fat NIL stacks > relationships.

No doubt. Hypothetically, if the guys at the top of our boards are being offered $200k more by another school, we are not going to finish well. That goes for any school. $50 thousand more a season is a ton of money.

Is offered the correct word to use?

Who is pitching NIL to recruits?

    So shady.

Always been that way. Which one will we be? We been fat stacks and relationships. Same as it ever was.

would be an even larger red flag to me if that occurs/for that reason. I think Billy would’ve gotten into top 10 and often times top 5 in the “old world” of recruiting. I still think he gets us there but if not…if NIL is more himderance than help…that is a big issue.

Spike, could not agree more, coming in CBN set the table for the big time
    2nd year leap.

We will see how well UF has adapted to the new rules. By the old standards I think the class would have cracked the top 5, - after all:

    Awesome facilities coming on line.
    New coach and staff.
An institutional commitment to football and recruiting.

Oh and not to mention an absolutely LOADED, traditional recruiting area:
    Central Fla and S Georgia.

If we are outside of the top ten, IMO that will not bode well for UF's football future going forward.

If UF is going to make a big leap in the recruiting rankings, this would be the year.

This class will be very telling for the future IMO.

If we are outside the top 10, it’s not Billy Napier’s fault. He is doing his job

Agree 100% Wanne, in fact, if we finish out of the top 10 it just demonstrates that College Football is running on a new paradigm, namely: Doe-Ray-Me.

It’s always been money, just more of it now as no one is worried about sanctions. We’ve also had lazy staffs and boosters aren’t down with that.

I do not see it as top 10 or bust. A couple big fish choosing another school last minute could drop an otherwise 10th ranked class down a few notches and the staff will likely learn from that and patch up the leaks, so to speak. If we were 12th, missing top 10 by a few stars, so be it. But if we ended up 20th and well before NSD the bigger/better prospects left on the board went committed elsewhere then I too would have some suspicions.

If we are struggling to get to 10, the cash isn’t there. Kids play for deon for cash. Our program is so much better than that.

If we miss on some prospects who would have put us over the top, we'll know that some NIL stuff went down that our coaches had no control of. I'm still pretty positive. I think our OL, DT and CB classes will be historic and we'll get at least one if not two great RBs. That's a pretty good place to start, top 10 ranking or not.

In retrospect that might be the case. The guy that defected fsu's class for Deion's poop show got paid an extraordinary amount of money and it remains to be seen how that works out- for the entire program. If we miss this cycle by a bit, then again next cycle- no matter by how much- I will be concerned. Are there other large programs whose staffs are new and adjusting to this environment? LSU and scUM come to mind. On one hand I think we have to see how we compare to those schools. georgia, bama, a&m all have mature staffs and probably more prepare than are we.

We are right there with miami so far and I thought Mario and the $$$ would have a bigger impact by now. LSU seems to be doing well, 5 four star commits with only one being from LA. I couldn't play for that dancing fool but whatever.

I’m not putting too much stock into how classes look right now. Looks to me like we have legit interest from several really good players. If we don’t get our share, money can only be it. You can say Bama gets players because they win but Tenn and A& M not so much. Payroll controls players 90% of the time . The Tony Gwynns that play for half price because he’s a Padre for life are bigtime outliers. Aaron Rodgers is closer to the norm, take as much cash as you can get and he doesn’t care if it hurts his chances of winning. Bama players get both winning and cash. Not too many 5* qbs are going to go to Tennessee for cheep because that’s the family team.

if my kid was offered by Florida and Georgia 100k vs 1mil, I’d feel like I’ve been kicked in the stomach because my kid would be a puppy. I have as strong of feelings as the next guy but cash does talk. We have to at least be in the ballpark even to get kids that grew up idolizyng gators.

And I have a feeling there may be some surprises as to who has some cash to throw around. Most strong booster system have been showing their strength for decades but now, no one is afraid of getting sanctioned by the good ol boys club.

We can be in the ball park and still miss the mark because of longer relationships elsewhere. Give our promising staff a couple of years and players will have a hard time saying no.

That’s what everyone said with Mullen. But even when he won he couldn’t recruit. The good recruiters can pull in kids before they start winning.

TAM has lost 4 games per year under Jimbo. Jimbo has essentially the same record at TAM that Ed O did at LSU and Dan had at UF. No trouble recruiting

We didn’t really win any big games under Mullen. Sure we got some big wins - probably the biggest was the win over Michigan. But we didn’t win enough of that level to establish solid credibility. I’m talking about beating Alabama or winning in Atlanta kind of big games.
