From SDS: ...about Alabama QB Bryce Young, wondering why the Alabama star didn't go into the transfer portal. "If you are advising Bryce Young, why do you not go into the portal and walk into Nick Saban’s office and say, ‘Hey, I want to be here, but I’ve got to protect myself so I’m going to go into the portal. And I want to come back as long as it’s matched with what I get out there.’ The kid would make 10 times what he would have made. How’s that not going to happen all the time? It should. It will," the Ole Miss coach said. Sports Illustrated's Ross Dellenger, who spoke with Kiffin, likened it to unregulated free agency, a now common term among coaches. Dellenger, during a segment with WJOX, shared the view that players could "dip their toe" in the transfer portal each year to gauge market interest, similar to NFL free agency.
And that’s the absolute worse part as a fan. I’m all for the top kids making as much as they can but not like this.
The Head Coaches do it all the time. Usually do to their agents wanting more money for them and the coaches.
Because saban stacks talent at qb and would tell him to get bent..Bryce young doesn’t have any leverage in my opinion
He probably is already taken care of and knows he will be in the nfl next year. He couldn’t help himself by transferring at this point to a team he is unfamiliar with. He could damn sure get paid immediately if he so chose though, just not in his best interests at this point.
Didn’t he leave and go to Alabama AM? I also saw a report of Texas Tech as his destination. Getting late and we need a plug and play DT.
Signed with UT out of HS...went JUCO Then to WVU...says he transferred to Texas Tech just last week? 25 years old.
Including Alabama A &M , he has committed to more schools than he had stars coming out of high school. Too many red flags!
Bama benefits from the portal more than anyone. They had 3rd teamers depart and picked up stars from other programs to fill their needs. Better example is Gibbs from Tech departing a losing team to play for a title in college. Other teams become developmental rosters for top programs. Fans lose interest if you don’t have player loyalty. Not talking about top 20 programs, but others that lose best players to free agency each year. That is the real danger to college sports. If I don’t get the opportunity at my college to watch and have memories of Emmitt Smith or Tim Tebow for 3 years because they transfer from my college to Bama, then I lose interest in college sports. Don’t want to be a farm system for Bama, Texas, USC, …. I already have a bad taste from our two starting LBs transferring to Utah and Missouri after coaching changes. If we were cherry picked each year like the Pitt kid to USC, then I’m less interested in college sports and less inclined to spend money or watch.
We probably had better options who we got enrolled last year, but it didn't show as much on the field as we had hoped. To some degree we are going to have to ride with the young better talent we got straight from high school rather than hope for a portal rescue.
Lol yeah, 3 times as more, as in 9 different commitments. What's worse is this will be his 6th different team he's signed with in 6 different years. Red flag is an understatement.
