Also was nice to hear the announcer refer to DFS as the heart and soul of the mavericks last night. I don't watch the NBA much anymore but I caught a few minutes of the mass game last night and heard that as he fought for a loose ball. Was nice to see the few gators we still have in the league bringing so many intangibles to their teams. Honestly a testament to the program Billy ran. Haslem, DFS , Brewer, Horford, etc etc What a great group of guys to represent the Gators
I hate the Celtics but now I’m pulling for them because I want Al to get a ring badly. “Wes Chandler was Percy Harvin before Percy Harvin was born.”
We need a ring of honor for basketball. Only this time I’d like the requirements to be understandable. “Wes Chandler was Percy Harvin before Percy Harvin was born.”
It's unfortunate that Al Horford will miss Game 1 and probably Game 2 against the Miami Heat due to COVID.
Horford is the best in my opinion. JWill had a hall of fame level offensive game, but he had no interest in playing defense. That drops him down in my opinion.
Horf also wins longevity by far. A stud again last night on the road against the 1 seed. Can close it out at home. If he gets his ring I think he’s done enough to make the hall of fame as he has earned enough accolades and has the stats of prior players to him who got in. Have we had a Gator make the pro basketball hall of fame?
I don't believe we have. I was wondering how close Horford is. On his NBA career alone I don't think he's very close but the basketball HOF is their entire playing career so with the back to back titles (and I think one of the MOP awards) plus 3 SEC titles you can start to form a case especially if the Celtics win the title this year. If he played for his national team longer and they were better would certainly help his case.
Why don’t you think he has the production (with years to add on) level of a hall of fame basketball player? If only considering his NBA career. Tony Kukoc is in the hall for example. So is Tom Heinsohn whose career accomplishments don’t match Al’s. I’m sure if I did some further research I could find other examples of guys Horford is better than who are in.
I don't maybe he is worthy? He is a 5 time all star and had a 3rd team all NBA. I wouldn't argue if he got in and like you said has more years to add to a wonderful career. So who knows? I didn't realize Kukoc was in, but reading up on him he was 5 time Euroleague player of the year before coming over to the US. He was also part of the first wave of Europeans to come over, so I imagine he got a bump for being a "trailblazer" (not saying he should). But agree Horford is a better player Heinsohn was before my time but averaged about 5 ppg more than Horford and made 6 all star teams, 4 second team all nba and won 8 titles
Look at Al’s stats for points scored, rebounds, …. Not close to HOF worthy at this time. Love Al, but was unselfish team player that simply did not dominate statistically. Kevin Love and Blake Griffin had better careers statistically. More like a Marc Gasol or DeMarcus Cousins career stat player. NBA & ABA Career Leaders and Records for Points | Basketball-Reference.com
