    New? -

By order of his lordship, king, emperor, the exalted one, the devine one, leader, exemplar, father, most on high, great man, ruler, supreme commander, pharoah, supreme being:

    Hear ye, hear ye:

he who knoweth all and everlastingly so has decreed:

Thy police and national guard are (henceforth) ordered to "shoot to kill" anyone suspected of taking medicine, vaccines, teaching history, being decent to gay folk, being black, being Jewish, protesting, watching porn, going to Disney World, smoking pot, not attending protestant rattlesnake church wrappings, being kind to animals, not killing Manatee's, Black Bears and Florida Panthers, (on the spot), taking birth control, or "thinking" by free will - and of course not worshiping your GOP supplied IDOL, of myself, "Ron Desantis" 6 times every 24 hours.

    And so it shall be...................

How much of that is due to federal state aid from the stimulus bills? A lot stronger argument that can be made for that than it being a result of his Covid policies, given that California is sitting on $100 Billion in budget surplus.

Florida's reserves will close out at more than $20 billion for this fiscal year and Florida's revenues have exceeded pre-pandemic estimates by more than $8 billion. No money from the Federal Government is included in Florida's record $20 billion reserves

Great Job Governor, keep up the good work and do not run for President in 2024 - we need you to keep us safe from Washington.

    Sure:

Governor Ron DeSantis Announces Record Budget Surplus as Florida’s Economy Continues to Outperform the Nation.

Florida employers have added jobs for 24 consecutive months and the state unemployment rate has remained below the national rate for 17 consecutive months. Florida’s April 2022 unemployment rate was 3.0 percent, down 0.2 percent from the previous month and lower than the national rate of 3.6 percent. In April 2022, Florida’s labor force grew by 3.0 percent (309,000) over the year. Florida’s private sector employment continues to show strong and steady growth, with a growth rate of 0.7 percent, more than double the national rate of 0.3 percent.

LOL, a statement from DeSantis' office. Here is another article addressing the same thing.

    Good article, from that link:

The biggest reason for the jump in general revenue is a surge in sales tax collections which have greatly exceeded even the estimates that were drawn up this past August.

There has also been an uptick in taxes charged on real estate transactions, which economists contend will continue to remain higher until anticipated higher interest rates on mortgages kick in later in 2022.

All of that is true but the "no fed money in the surplus" is the lottery trick. Don't fall for it.

Doesn't, but I know you like to have links to quoted information and you didn't support your claim with a link.

    Works both ways.

Okay, so you just needed confirmation that California has an almost $100 Billion surplus? Okay, well, now you have it.

I just can't figure out why all these idiots are moving from NY to FL. Don't they know DeSantis is a dictator and FL is an awful place to live? I mean look at the OP. I just don't get it. It's almost like the people complaining about DeSantis are full of crap. But that can't be, right?

Flight to Florida is still accelerating despite NY COVID-19 reopening push

"A total of 21,546 New Yorkers swapped their driver’s licenses for the Sunshine State version during the first four months of this year — a 12% increase from the same period in 2021.

The 2022 totals are 55% higher than the first four months of the last pre-pandemic year of 2019."

Listening to Rational Security and I did not realize that many American political scientists from both sides, some as a warning and some as praise, see DeSantis as teh avatar of American Orbanism. Here's a brief piece highlighting many of the discussions:

Yet it seems to have, at least indirectly, inspired legislators in Florida. At an April panel in Budapest, Dreher suggested the Florida bill was “modeled in part on what Hungary did last summer.” To justify placing ideological controls on education, the Florida law’s proponents have, like Orban and his allies, conjured a world where pedophiliac “groomers” are waiting to prey on schoolchildren.

When criticized by influential players — most notably Disney, among Florida’s largest private employers — DeSantis wheeled down the path of confrontation. His state government passed a second law, punishing Disney’s executives for speaking out by moving to dissolve the special jurisdiction that allowed the company to maintain its own regulatory and tax provisions in the vast chunk of central Florida where it operates Disney World.

As Beauchamp noted, this approach is far more extensive in Hungary under Orban, who has used the power of the state to deprive a critical business leader of contracts and built a system where it behooves major commercial interests to toe the ruling party’s line.

Amid abortion battle, DeSantis vetoes birth-control funding — again

When Gov. Ron DeSantis slashed $3 billion from the state’s budget Thursday, one ill-fated item sounded familiar: Just as he did last year, DeSantis vetoed $2 million meant to help low-income people access long-acting birth control.

It was again Senate President Wilton Simpson, a Pasco County Republican, who included it in the $110 billion budget. Unlike last year, though, this veto landed amid a national reckoning on reproductive rights. It came weeks after a leaked Supreme Court opinion suggested the Court will overturn Roe v. Wade, and less than a month before Florida’s new 15-week abortion ban goes into effect.

Stephanie Fraim, the president and CEO of Planned Parenthood of Southwest and Central Florida — which includes the organization’s Tampa Bay-area clinics — questioned the rationale for the veto.

“Funding for this sensible investment in the health of our communities enjoys rare bipartisan support,” she said in an emailed statement. “And, thanks to President Biden, the Legislature was able to pass a balanced budget with plenty of money left in reserves. To take away health care from vulnerable people is just another example of his ongoing cruelty to Floridians.”
