VT brought in temporary grandstands for Regionals, increasing capacity to over 2,000. Not only did they sell out Regionals, but there didn't appear to be any "no shows" as every seat was actually occupied. For Super Regionals, all reserved seats were snapped up by season ticket holders and were never offered to the general public. The remaining general admission tickets were sold out in three minutes. $20 general admission tickets now selling for $150 to $200 on Stubhub. Hotels jacked up their rates and even then no rooms are available for miles. Gotta give credit where credit is due -- tip of the hat to the VT fan base.
The Gators have an absolutely GREAT class coming in 2023, with only 2 signees being added to the roster over this summer. So Walton just needs to add a couple of players to next year's team to plug a couple of gaps and hopefully add a little more power to the batting order. This will bridge the gap for the 5 super players coming in 2023. Yea, Va T has great fan support in general and this softball team is in uncharted territory so understandable.
IF we can just keep those young ladies in the 23 class in hand, the team surely ought to be super competitive during their time in Gtown.
The portal at the moment is on fire. Bailey Dowlifng, Kilfoyl, Goodnight, Bloodworth, and Lord all from Alabama. Savana Sikes from UGA Donihoo from Oklahoma Alex Storako (pitcher from Michigan)
Alex Storako or Lexi Kilfoyil should be our top 2 proirties, Donoihoo is rumored to wanting to be playing 2B and SS, so we don't really fit her. I could see Sikes going to FSU, to replace Sherrill at 3rd. And Bailey Dowling isn't in the transfer portal, she just posted her support on Montana staying
Donihoo was a great hitter for Oklahoma, but don't know the issues about why she took a leave of absence in mid April and quit the team a week or so ago. We do have an opening at 2nd base next year, with Hannah Adams leaving. Incoming freshman Kaila Pollard, the #4 ranked player in the nation in this year's class, can play infield or outfield and if she's as good as advertised will find a place in the lineup. Savanna Sikes is a pretty good third baseman but Charla Echols has another year. But Sikes only hit .244 in 2021 and .285 this year with no power. I think we can do better. The pitcher from Michigan was very good and if we can get her for her 5th year of softball, that would be great, IMO. But I would take Kilfoyl first.
Looks like the Gators have landed a transfer in OF Pal Egan from Texas A&M Corpus Christi. Great numbers in a poor conference. Hopefully it will translate to SEC.
Miss St with an early lead on Zona. They have a very good shot to advance to OKC playing this SR at home, which would be amazing given their 11th place SEC finish.
Joe, I just looked at her Twitter account and while she retweeted several Gator posts, I don’t see her mention she is transferring. She has a picture with Coach Walton on the site. Do you have a link to the commitment?
Great tune. Better in Va Tech context, they play Enter Sandman as intro to their football team. Va Tech softball may have to tune up Exit Sandman after this weekend’s Gator chomp down!
