No I'm afraid those days are over. Which sucks to me because I love watching fantastic pitching. It took a very special pitcher to do that in the first place, but these days hitters have so much of an advantage. If you're under 1 in the sec you are fantastic. So much attention being given to OU numbers right now..... absolutely would not have them in the sec.
Gainesville, FL Hourly Weather Forecast | Weather Underground Might not be able to get much softball in until Saturday late afternoon.
Not sure if it was mentioned anywhere but Adams, Hightower, Falby, and Wallace made the southeast region teams. Suprised kistler wasn't a pick. Four Gators Selected to NFCA All-Southeast Region Teams - Florida Gators
2 upsets already from opening games. Liberty beats Georgia 2-0, as the Flames' pitcher struck out 13. And McNeese State scored 10 runs in the top of the 1st and run-ruled Notre Dame in 5 innings 11-1 in the Evanston, IL Regional.
Georgia Tech beat Wisconsin 2-1 and will face the winner of UF/Canisius tomorrow, weather permitting. Gator game should start around 4:50 on ESPN+.
Gators up 8-0 in the 4th on Canisius. Lexie Delbrey has 7 K's in 3 innings. Wallace and Roe have homered.
UF/Canisius in a lighting delay as of 6:18 pm. Florida up 8-1 and coming up to bat in the bottom of the 4th.
UF softball won their opening game of the NCAA tournament, beating the Canisius Golden Griffin 10-1 in 5 innings. They will play Georgia Tech, who beat Wisconsin 2-1, in the winner's bracket game Saturday, weather permitting. Lexie Delbrey pitched 3 complete innings, striking out 7, but she walked 4, hit 1 and only gave up 1 hit, being relieved by Rylee Trlicek with the bases loaded and nobody out in the 4th with the Gators up 8-0. Trlicek made a throwing error on a comebacker trying to get a force out, allowing an unearned run to score, but she got a line drive out and two K's to end the inning. There was a lightning delay and the Gators added 2 runs in the bottom of the 4th and Natalie Lugo pitched the 5th to close out the run rule game. Florida's offense was led by Skylar Wallace, 3-3, HR stolen base and 3 runs scored; Sam Rose, 1-2 with a 3-run HR; Kendra Falby, 2-3 with a run scored; Reagan Walsh, 2-3 with an RBI, Cheyenne Lindsey, 1-3 with 2 RBI, and Charla Echols, 1-2 with a sac fly and 2 RBI. Nice, decisive win for the Gators.
The UF/Georgia Tech game is scheduled for 3 pm Saturday on the ACC Network. Hopefully the weather will cooperate.
Yesterday Delbry looked great when she could throw a strike. I have no idea why she continued to work outside when she was facing very poor hitters. Maybe our pitching coach is not developing or coaching our pitchers up. Her problem all year is she doesn't throw stikes.
I noticed that also but with a virtually guaranteed "W," I thought it was smart for Bosch to let Delbry work on her outside placement in a game environment, with an umpire, fans in the stands, and batters she wasn't used to. She's the future.
Part of the problem with Lexie throwing strikes was the umpire, whose strike zone was consistently inconsistent.
The SEC needs to add intelligence to its weather delay policy. Right now, its binary: lightning within eight miles = delay not less than 30 minutes. They should add intelligence to the policy and have a meteorologist on staff in Birmingham to assess when there is no need to call the game. Today, sure, storm obviously coming. But yesterday, it was equally obvious that while lightning may have skirted eight miles away, it was never going to come any closer. Smiley and crew didn't even bother rolling out the tarp yesterday, whereas today they got it on as soon as play was called.
Gator softball won their 45th game of the season in a game that ended 6 1/2 hours after it started with a 7-1 win over Georgia Tech. Elizabeth Hightower pitched 5 innings and gave up 1 run on 2 hits, 3 walks and 1 K. Rylee Trlicek threw an inning, giving up 2 hits and a walk with a strikeout and Natalie Lugo got the final 3 outs, hitting a batter and getting 2 K's. The Gators scored 2 runs in the first on a 2 out 2 run double from Reagan Walsh, who drove in their 3rd run of the game with a 2 out single in the 3rd. After a 2 1/2 hour weather delay the Gators got 2 more in the 6th when Kendra Falby got a 2 out single, followed by a Hannah Adams single. When Adams stole 2nd, Falby scored on a throwing error, then Skylar Wallace drove in Adams with a single. Florida got 2 more in the 6th when Walsh Walked, followed by singles from Cheyenne Lindsey & Katie Kistler. Emily Wilkie got a sac fly to drive in a run and Falby drove in the final Gator run with a single. The Gators outhit Tech 10-4 and played errorless ball. They will play whoever comes out of the loser's bracket sometime Sunday, only needing to win once to advance to next weekend's Super Regionals.
Georgia Tech & Wisconsin meet at 10 am Sunday, with the winner playing Florida 30 minutes afterwards. It appears the 12:30 or so game will only be on ESPN+.
Florida plays Wisconsin for the Regional championship after the Badgers scored 2 runs in the 6th and 3 runs in the 7th, the final run being a 2-out, bases loaded RBI walk, to beat Georgia Tech 76 in a game that ended about 1:15 PM. Lexie Delbrey will be on the mound for the Gators, with little used Gabi Salo starting for the Badgers. Salo has only appeared only in 4 games with 6.1 innings pitched. Hopefully the Gators can take advantage, jump out early and put the game away before Wisconsin has a chance to settle in.
