$hocker! Jordan Addison transfers to USC: All-American WR gives Trojans game-changing playmaker for 2022 season
Sure the money was good but he is moving to SoCal. Everything is more expensive and the taxes will kill him. He could have come to Florida for less $$$ and still been better off.
I mean, of course. I don't blame the player. But this is clearly a form free agency (actually even more liberal because no one is under contract) whereby the rich get richer at the expense of "poorer" programs. Was that really the spirit of NIL?
Remember the days when you would lose college credits when you transferred programs and they would make you retake courses in your chosen major at the new program. Now they accommodate these athletes and help them graduate in any way possible. Curry just completed a semester of courses to earn a Davidson degree while playing in a NBA season. Admirable to go back to school when earning $150 million, but they now pamper all athletes for playing a game.
Oh course it’s messed up. They need to make the kids employees and under contract. Even if the contracts are only 30k, it’s still a contract. I don’t like the nfl but as far as an organization, they have perfected it. Colleges should take that model or deal with this unbridled free agency.
If you're young and have money, California is a better place to live than Florida. Taxes are the last thing on his mind.
I gues it’s all up to the individual. I spent ten years in San Diego when I was young. Surf, ski , and a padre’s game all on the same day. Much better music scene. Just depends what a kid is into. Pensacola, Gainesville, Miami… three completely different worlds.
Spent a lot of time during my career in both Pensacola and San Diego. Two completely different worlds. The best thing about San Diego is the weather. Practically perfect. But, it's full of Californian ideology, and the taxes and cost of living have always been ridiculous (even before inflation). Pensacola is more down to earth and has beautiful beaches. Lots of retired and active duty Navy presence in both places.
Yep, my stepdad was a capt in tge navy. When he went to Guam, I stayed in San Diego for a few more years. I like it out there but Pcola is much better.
I’ve spent time in both locations as well. Pensacola, Fort Walton Beach and Panama City are on the Panhandle and have beautiful beaches, attract a lot of tourists, and nice weather. Has more of an Alabama feel in some parts than other parts of Florida. Really liked living in the central time zone when living there, as opposed to the eastern time zone in other parts of Florida. Pensacola was definitely more city like than FWB. In San Diego, my favorite place to stay in the entire US is Coronado Island. Beautiful, relaxed, nicest year round weather you will ever find, great restaurants, can bike the entirety of the island, great walking paths, …. If you have never visited, you have to go to Coronado Island at least once
My brother went to Coronado high school and UF. My parents had a condo on Coronado Cays. I always lived in Pacific beach.
Grew up in PC. Once roadtripped from there to San Diego with my best friend's wife who was meeting him after his six months at sea. We stayed in La Jolla. Gorgeous city but not a very youthful place. Left PC when I was 29 for art school in Atlanta, then a job 18 months later at a big ad agency in Chicago. Spent a lot of time in LA on commercial production. Had one three month long project for a Super Bowl package and got to know the city better. Fell in love with the beach area from Santa Monica southward. Started to hang out the blue collar people in the biz, gaffers, CGI artists, commercial actors and session musicians. Really enjoyed their company. Their parties were so much better than the high end parties thrown by production companies. That was almost 30 years ago and I'm out of the business. Getting some traction on a screenplay I just finished so I'll be going back soon to network. My mentor is single, early forties and loves it out there. I won't move there but I can see doing two-week stretches for face-to-face meetings a few times a year. Chicago will always be home. Spending a week in a townhouse on 30A this September. That's the only part of the panhandle I really care for. I barely leave my dad's or brothers' places when I visit PC. Only other place in Florida I'd want to visit is Gainesville.
