Thursday's match in the quarterfinals against 7th seeded Virginia will be a barn burner. Our Gators beat Virginia at the National Indoors by a score of 4-2. Since then Virginia has refined their lineup and been on a win streak against some of the Nations best teams. The remainder of the National Team Championships will be contested on the courts of the University of Illinois. Champaign, Illinois is in the Central Time zone. However, all the times I am giving you are converted to Florida's Eastern Time zone. Remember that you can download the tennisONE app and watch all the action in every remaining match. 1-8 seeds all advanced I believe. Every match should be a good one. NO west coast teams, only one ACC.
Indeed. Kentucky knocks off top seed TCU 4-3 in the first match to go final. Baylor and Tennessee locked in a close one as well, currently 2-2 with 3 matches in the 3rd set. Winner would potentially be the Gators SF opponent, though clearly we'd be wise not to look ahead.
Tennessee also got the 4-3 upset win, awaits the winner of UF/UVA. Doubles has started. Gators got a quick win 6-1 on court 3, but are down a break 2-4 on both courts 1 & 2.
Virginia took #2 in a tiebreak 7-6 (3). Pretty lousy tiebreak from Siimar & Andrade after they had done well to get themselves back in the match. Gonna need to rally in singles.
As soon as Riffice and Shelton lost I felt we better buckle up.....#2 doubles have struggled in the postseason. Made a nice run to go from down 2-4 to go up 5-2, but couldn't sustain. Went down 0-4 in the TB and it was done.
And now it's pouring down rain. Not sure if they'll go indoors at some point, but either way...definitely a long night...
They have moved Mich vs Oh St inside. UF will play when the outside is dry or when the Oh St match finshes inside. Rough night from every perspective. Thankfully a day off tomorrow if they can pull this one out.
Ben just won 1st set tiebreaker 12-10. Raffice was up 5-2 but now it's 5-7, 1-3 Vale 6-2, 5-6 Andrade 6-3, 4-2 Sinar 5-7, 2-3 Goodger 3-6, 5-3
Man Riffice just had an awful stretch to blow his first set lead and go down 0-2 in his 2nd Shelton has a handful of set points before finally winning his first 12-10 in the tiebreak LONG road ahead to salvage this one. Siimar looks out of it, just haven't been nuts about the decision to ride him at 5 all postseason
Desperately need Goodger to get a break here and force a third.....Siimar and Riffice in huge trouble.
