NHL players did not need the drug. They are the extremely healthy (minus missing a few front teeth). Just stop peddling the idea that the unvaccinated are the reason for spread. It does not matter if you are vaccinated or not. Now could you get a small therapeutic help from these drugs. Maybe. Far less now with the new variants. So based on risk...people can make their call. The fact we coerced people with these drugs is wrong and one of the worst public health decisions of all time.

    LOL!!!

NHL athletes are part of the lowest risk group out there. They are professional athletes. They were never going to have bad outcomes with Covid as a whole. Just stop...

And yet, what happened to the Anti-Vaxxer NHL player:

Unvaccinated Josh Archibald out indefinitely with COVID-related condition

BTW, if you read the article, that was the second player from that team to contract issues from Covid, the first from prior to vaccines.

    Oops.

There would never be examples of professional athletes who suffered greatly from COVID, right? Except for these examples. All got infected before the vaccine became widely available. Date of the article is Mar 3, 2021.

Not to mention, you again miss a big reason to get vaccinated. To cut down the number of people infected, and lower overall infection rates. Yes, the vaccine isn't 100% effective at preventing breakthrough cases, but even at 30% against Omicron, that's a significant number of people who never get the virus, and who never pass it on to others. And while professional athletes tend to be healthy, they share locker rooms with older coaches, trainers, journalists, etc., who may not be in the prime of their lives. Being vaccinated helped slow the spread of the virus, and helped all NHL players to recover fully and quickly. Unlike the athletes mentioned in the article above.

Still need more convincing? Here's another article, dated March, 2020, that talks about a completely different group of professional athletes who struggled to regain form after having COVID. No overlap with the first article. Now, tell me again there is zero chance of NHL professional from having complications from COVID if they are unvaccinated?

Same condition he could have put himself at risk for by taking the drug. Same condition that he could have got if he took the drug as the NHL showed does not keep its players from getting covid. This explains more about why he did not want to take the drug.

I did not even know he had already had Covid. We have seen enough to know natural immunity is superior. Even though it lost a lot of efficacy with omicron and BA2...

You certainly found an article to discuss the highest risk group in Von Miller who had a history of asthma...

And there isn't a single NHL player with asthma? Keep making excuses. Do all the other athletes listed in the two articles all have asthma too? Or any other high risk medical condition?

By the way, having asthma was found to actually lower your odds of getting COVID, lower the odds of being hospitalized, but if so, increasing your odds of ending up in the ICU.

Just because you are high risk does not mean you will have issues. Thanks for pointing that out!

Trying to follow your logic here. You claim no NHL player, because they are professional athletes, is in danger of having complications after getting COVID. I post two links, both citing multiple pro athletes with serious COVID complications to refute your point. You post that one of the athletes has asthma, as a reason why there were complications. I come back with there are NHL players with asthma, and your point is to thank me by saying not all high risk will have issues?

I'm truly at a loss with your dizzying intellect. Yes, not all high risk will have issues from COVID. At the same time, there are those who aren't high risk who do have serious complications. Like all the athletes mentioned in the two links. One easy way to lower the risk of complications for all age groups and health types? Get vaccinated. Again, just look at the NHL. Not a single, vaccinated player had any serious complications from COVID.

And yet, it was the unvaccinated one that got the condition, not the multitude of vaccinated ones. Why do you suppose that is? Luck? Coincidence? Can you point to the vaccinated NHL players that missed the majority of the season due to myocarditis?

He had it after he chose not to get vaccinated. And his natural immunity cost him most of the season.

Hey…if you can’t live reality that these drugs have not produced as advertised. We just live in different worlds. It is quite clear.

Even the skeptical Clapton who still chose to vaccinate and had severe reactions to the vaccine is Covid positive and having to cancel shows…

Eric Clapton cancels shows after testing positive for COVID-19

100% of their cases are in the unvaccinated. 0% cases are in the vaccinated. This can only mean one thing. The data speaks. :emoji_joy:

    MMR = 2 shots. Polio = 4 shots as a child, minimum 2 as an adult. Hep B - 4 shots. DTAP - 2 shots, then 1 every 10 years.

The COVID-19 mRNA vaccine series was rushed...rushed to save people's lives directly and indirectly by keeping as many people out of hospitals as possible. The first shot is meant to introduce a naive immune system to a foreign antigen that represents an invading virus. The bodies multi-layered immune system goes to work. Interferons, B-cells begin producing both neutralizing antibodies and non-neutralizing antibodies seeking to block key RBDs, block cleavage sites, etc, etc....helper T-cells calling for more antibodies and other T-cells calling for destruction of infected cells once the virus has corrupted them, etc, etc...

Once your body recovers, those neutralizing antibodies stick around for a while, but eventually the levels drop. B-cells, T-cells, linger and mature/evolve, more importantly the T-cell germination sites remain and ready to begin cranking out killer T-cells when the body next calls for them. The second shot should come along 2-6 months later and challenge the evolved memory cells to produce evolved antibodies and T-cells, and the process begins again. We did rush shot #2 and did not allow for maturation and evolution, so a third shot at least 6 months later was shown to be very beneficial for helping broaden/mature B and T cell responses. Again, you body also produces neutralizing antibodies immediately, but they are again short lived.

There is really no data to support a 4th shot at this time unless you are immunocompromised. We simply have no data that shows a 4th shot further improves outcomes vs severe disease or hospitalization or death. That is in large part because, despite what some crack-pots keep repeating, the original vaccine still holds tremendous efficacy against severe disease and death. Sadly, people who do not understand any of this continue to distort that fact that 85% is not 100% and claim that the vaccines "don't work". Pure ignorance.

That said, a couple of comments directly responding to your examples (assuming I understood all of this correctly):

    1. Vaccines, almost every one, protect against disease, not infection (small pox is the one glaring exception luckily for us).
    2. Polio - the virus still very much exists. People still become infected by it, yet almost no one develops disease, let alone paralyzing polio myelitis. In vaccinated people, 99.99%+ of those who become infected after vaccination have no symptoms. The handful a year that do often have symptoms that present as a mild cold. You do not even know you are infected with polio - and since we do not genetically test everyone with a cold, we actually have no clue how much (or more correctly how little) of the polio virus is in circulation. We do know that vaccinated people can still transmit the virus and infect others, which is why when you travel to places with high circulation of the wild-type virus (Pakistan for example), you are instructed to get a booster well before travelling. Not to protect you, but to goose your short-term neutralizing anti-bodies to ensure you do not carry the virus back with you and expose others.
    3. Measles vaccine also protects against disease not infection, however the neutralizing antibodies generated by the vaccine last far longer than the current COVID vaccines (and much longer than from an infection - that one really pisses off the anti-vaxx crowd). Further, the virus that causes measles has very little antigenic drift, so it does not develop new ways to evade the neutralizing antibodies, unlike SARS-CoV-2. In addition, 3 out of every 100 vaccinated people who are exposed to measles develops some level of disease despite having completed the 2 dose MMR series. However, unlike SARS-CoV-2, since the vast majority of the population are immunized, there are not large numbers of stupid asses out there acting as walking super-spreader events.

In summary, if 90+% of our population were vaccinated, the spread of the virus borne disease, and especially the evolution of virus itself would fall dramatically. SARS-CoV-2 would pass into the background like measles or polio. By continuing to provide naive hosts, petri dishes for viral evolution, we continue to put all of society at greater risk.

Finally, I am curious, what EXACTLY do you believe was rushed about these vaccines? Rolling out the second shot by healthcare professionals who were desperate to limit the number needing to go to the hospital is a given. I don't think anyone argues that point any longer. What else do you believe was "rushed" in the face of a global pandemic?

I called my doctor to schedule an appointment and figured that while i'm there i'll get his opinion on whether or not I should get the 2nd booster now. The receptionist asked if its ok to do a telemedicine appointment because the doctor has Covid...
