Selling them elsewhere to make money thinking they won't need them? Probably what's left isnt in good condition either.

Precision guided multi warhead shells vs shoot that way that far, hope powder loads in shells are consistent. Major difference.

new heavy artillery with smart shells will be a game changer for the war.

this article is 10 days old so it is likely that this equipment is being put into action now or just recently. the next two weeks or so should see russian forces being driven back

Ukraine’s New Heavy Artillery Will Cause Russia a World of Pain (msn.com)

Ukraine will almost certainly get Western precision-guided rounds as part of the package. The American-developed M982 and M982A1 Excalibur artillery shells can home in on a set of GPS coordinates, and unlike artillery of the past, can hit a target with the first round. Excalibur is so precise, the U.S. Army claims, it will hit within two meters of the target “regardless of range.” This level of accuracy will allow Ukrainian artillerymen to hit more targets faster and without so-called “collateral damage” to civilians still living in combat areas.

Excalibur will allow Ukrainian forces to take out enemy forces quickly and more efficiently than ever before—a major asset for a defending force that might find itself outnumbered. A Bayraktar-type drone, for example, could act as a spotter for an Excalibur-armed artillery unit, locating dozens of enemy targets in a single sortie and sending back GPS coordinates for nearby artillerymen to service. Excalibur could take out stationary enemy vehicles one at a time, or even rain down a curtain of well-placed explosive shells along a trench line of enemy troops. A target that might take one battery of six howitzers to destroy might well just take one Excalibur-armed howitzer to destroy.

Another round likely winging its way to Ukraine is the UK/French BONUS artillery shell. BONUS was developed for one thing and one thing only: to kill tanks and other armored vehicles. BONUS, once fired from the muzzle of a howitzer, flies downrange and ejects two smart submunitions. The two submunitions use a multispectral sensor package to detect enemy armor across an area of up to 32,000 meters. Once an enemy tank or armored vehicle is detected, the submunition fires a self-forging warhead that lances down through the top of the vehicle, penetrating the thin armor and destroying it.

BAE Systems, which is in the process of supplying BONUS to the U.S. Army, says one shell will on average take out one target. Imagine a Russian tank company of ten tanks advancing across an open Ukrainian field. A nearby battery of six M777 howitzers responds to the attack, firing six BONUS at the column. The Russian tank company could lose up to six tanks in a single salvo, instantly rendering the company combat ineffective. BONUS would be devastating against Russian artillery units in firing positions, seeking out and destroying howitzers, ammunition carriers, and headquarters vehicles alike.

interesting post in the 'comments' section for that article.....

"I'm a 77 year old Vietnam veteran and I look upon all this as really sad. The Ukrainians are, of course, 100% right in defending their country. And we are 100% right in helping them to do it. The Russian government is 100% wrong. They need not worry about invasion from the west as in the past. Nuclear weapons have changed possibilities in that regard. But I think the error of so many of the Russian people is a result of a type of propaganda that authoritarian systems are so adept at propagating. Shut out the opposition and allow people to hear only one voice. That's what the Nazi's did to end the Weimar Republic, and that's what Putin has attempted to emulate, with quite a bit of success, I might add. No one is immune to that type of propaganda. Even in this country, too many have insulated themselves from alternative views. They listen to only one voice and that's a dangerous course that could, eventually, end in disaster for our republic. You may think not, but history testifies otherwise. The fact is that historically, republics don't last all that long. If we wish to preserve the American republic, we're going to have to work at it. We're going to have to listen to each other regardless of our views. We just might learn something. "

“historically, republics don’t last all that long.”

Historically governments didn’t last all that long, even if the country continued to exist. France has gone through several republic type governments in its history. If you look at the list of active republics you’ll see them exceeding 300 and 400 years old in Europe (San Marino being an exception at 1700+ years. Point is, we’ve entered a different time with greater world-wide stability.

All that being said, I do share his concerns that our republic is under attack internally from people not honoring the spirit of our representational government.

How irresponsible of Finland and Sweden. If Putin gets aggressive, it's all their fault. Stop poking the bear. /s

It was wrong then too. I think items like that should be returned or paid for. This isn't the same era.

The problem is that the US artillery, which is accurate to 25 miles, is not making it the Ukrainian front lines fast enough. Russia maintains HUGE advantages in the stalemated war out East because their artillery hits 24 miles deep, and Ukrainian current technology hits 9 miles out. As a Ukrainian officer said, the Ukrainians can see the Russians, know where they’re at, but can’t hit them. The Russians can see the Ukrainians, and can hit them. So instead of actively seeking out Russians, the Ukrainians are forced to dive into their trenches.

Fortunately, once the Russians advance, the Ukrainians are able to pick them apart with their Javelins, etc., the weapons used in close combat. Hence the stalemate.

We have not offered Hungary a viable alternative yet, though we are capable of doing so. Similarly, we have not offered to backfill their old Soviet equipment and munitions, though we are capable of doing so. If we did that, and they still refused to get on board, then I think we would have a better argument for isolating them.

Touring castles and museums in England makes it apparent how much they looted the world. Crown jewels seemed to be the ultimate example. Best stones stolen from countries around the world
