Thinking out loud in response to a couple of your posts. I consider myself agnostic, and Buddhism resonates with me even if I take it more as a philosophy or a science of the mind than a religion. I often feel guilty for eating animals. Their death is part of nature, of course, but should I contribute to their pain and suffering when it's not necessary for my survival? And even among different animals, do I think dolphins are inherently more valuable than cows? Is what I'm willing to have killed on my behalf so I can eat it based upon the animal's intelligence, capacity to suffer, or whether or not they are cute or otherwise likeable based upon my subjective preferences? With respect to abortion, one factor I've thought about over the years is at what point in the development of a fetus does it have the capacity to suffer and experience pain in the way that we understand those things. Early on, is it much different from pulling the plug on a 50 year old who is "brain dead"? I don't know where to draw the line, but I certainly do not view a blastocyst as having the same value as a third trimester fetus.
I have no clue which post you are talking about. Nonetheless, assertions backed up without argumentation don't amount to anything, so there is nothing more to discuss here.
. Can’t figure out what is offensive about the first post? I know it which is why I said you wouldn’t be able to.
Profanity laden but legally accurate screeds = every episode of 5-4. 5-4 is a podcast about how much the Supreme Court sucks. It’s a progressive and occasionally profane take on the ideological battles at the heart of the Court’s most important landmark cases, and an irreverent tour of all the ways in which the law is shaped by politics. Listen each week as hosts Peter, Michael, and Rhiannon dismantle the Justices’ legal reasoning on hot-button issues like affirmative action, gun rights, and campaign finance, and use dark humor to reveal the high court’s biases. 5-4
Great take from a nurse - tiktok skit. Nurse is talking to her patient. Sir, I see that you're a DNR...Do Not Resuscitate? Well, I'm sorry but I'm pro life. That means I don't believe in DNRs. So even though these are your wishes, I don't have to respect them because it's against MY beliefs. So I'm going to revive you if you code. Also, the meds you declined? Well I'm just going to inject them into your IV bag anyway. Because I know what's good for you and I think they'll help you. What do you mean it's your choice? "My body my choice" isn't a thing anymore. So I'm not following your directives. I get to push MY beliefs on YOU whether you like it or not. ...........
I see. I paraphrased Acts chapter 2. You dislike the story about Peter confronting the Jews in Acts 2 by pointing out their sin of murdering Jesus and then calling on them to repent so that they can be forgiven their sins. Many of those confronted walked through the gates of faith to paradise that very day. Others were hardened in their sin and rebellion. Jesus was crucified, the apostles were jailed and beaten, and Stephen was stoned. To provoke that kind of reaction they must have also offended the Jews in the 1st century, but not all offense is sin. If it is the gospel that offends, then it is obedience to Christ that is the offense. And Christ will not judge as evil the very thing that he commanded.
