the shitstorm that would happen here if we had an almost full class with only 4 4-stars, the highest of which is ranked 161 nationally…
13. Hampered by NIL, slow start and prior shit show. edit: I had originally guessed 7. But our slow start has caused me to downgrade my prediction. I certainly hope it's better, time will tell.
I'm not buying that UF is getting beat in the NIL game. I'm predicting bottom of top ten, heavy on OL, DL, CBs and RBs. I was very optimistic about next year but starting to worry about what will happen when NIL (d)evolves.
When we hired CBN, and saw the energy, I thought we were a "lock" for top 5, even better, considering the bevy of talent in Central Florida. BUTTTT - given the evolution of NIL, the transfer portal and the general state of College (excuse me, NFL light) Football I have no idea whatsoever and would not venture to guess. I think the answer lies in how many wealthy people join the Gator Collective, Gator Gard, Gator this, Gator that, to raise the necessary cash.
The way the crystal balls are falling, the commits UF gets at DT, OL, RB and CB will put the Gators in the top 20. We need a couple of big name WRs to come our way, then round out at LB/DE, TE and safety to sneak up to about 10th or 11th. Not sure top 10 is possible without an elite QB and there's only one left on the board. This will still be a great class without one.
Hope you're right, though I can see a scenario where a few four star prospects get passed over in favor of three star kids the coaches like better. I'm fine with that. Not optimistic about QB but if we do get that one guy with a committable UF offer, all bets are off.
