Being reshared so women can make plans for everything from stocking up to moving out of Gilead states.
I have a few podcasts I follow. One of them was discussing this topic. Things like Critical Race Theory, Critical Gender Theory, etc began as ideas conceived in the ivory towers of academia. Then they trickle down from there into the culture. Since the culture is driven by the latest ideological fad whatever it is, the culture is susceptible to just about anything that can come out of academia. It is instilled as a cultural value that academia is unquestionably right when they reach a consensus. If academia can create the right buzzwords and frame the narrative, then the culture will run with it once they perceive it is the next ideological fad no matter what it is. I don't think these ideas have hit the culture just yet, but there are people with multiple letters after their name laying the ground work for it to happen.
Nope, it's right out of the Republican playbook, as defined by John Erlichman while serving as Assistant to the President for Domestic Affairs under President Richard Nixon: Top Nixon adviser reveals the racist reason he started the 'war on drugs' decades ago It's a deliberate and intentional effort to connect pro-choice with pedophilia in the public perception.
Yep, all part of that false dichotomy they like to spew: you are either a trumpist or a radical leftist pedophile who hates america. Talk about a line of bullshit.
Complete nonsense. Just because you heard it from some bullshit artist on a podcast doesn't make it a thing.
It would be the first bill a republican congress would present with a White House that would sign it. All part of the GOP small government plan.
No this is different and more insidious. This strategy recognizes that a massive chunk in the middle won't be swayed by the outlandish rhetoric that 'these liberals are going to destoy this country!" This is instead about connecting in the minds of that massive moderate chunk, the concept of "in favor of women having the choice to have an abortion" with the very negative act of sex with children, and over time moving the needle away from pro-choice sentiment or support from that moderate middle by creating this absurd but disgusting parallel. Like a reverse halo effect. It's designed purpose is not necessarily to convert more to the "anti-abortion" camp, but to erode support or will from those without strong convictions in either direction, so that they are less motivated when the other side tries to mobilize them to vote against future efforts to further dismantle this right.
What I have read about is an effort to distinguish between someone merely having an attraction (which is arguably not a choice) versus someone acting upon that attraction. The idea being that people will be more likely to get help and successfully resist their urges if they have a support system and are not lumped in with pedophiles who have or are actively sexually abusing children. I don't know if this way of thinking about it will make a difference or not, but I don't think the people highlighting this distinction believe that the law should be changed to say that pre-pubescent kids have the ability to consent. As for post-pubescent "minors," I don't think that's pedophila, and there are already states that have laws saying those minors can consent. For example, the age of consent in Alabama is only 16.
Well, that's just insane. Men benefit as much as women from contraception. Are they all just really enthusiastic to be fathers and husbands? And unless they're also rapists, there's still one sure-fire method of birth control--just say "no," to crazy men who won't allow contraception. I can't believe there's enough supporters of this to make for a viable political platform.
Well there isn't in a situation where we have democracy, but we live in America, where geography votes, not people, and politicians pick their geography.
