I agree, but proably a Johnny Wholestaff kind of day. I don't think that Pogue is ready for 100 pitches.

Gator baseball improved to 28-18, 10-13 in the SEC by scoring 6 runs in the top of the 9th to break a 3-3 tie and beat Mississippi State 9-3. The home plate umpire's strike zone was all over the place tonight, but the Gator bats finally broke it open from unexpected sources - Jac Caglionone, Kendrick Calilao and Ty Evans. Florida had 11 hits and 10 walks on the night along with 12 K's, but Caglionone had a 2-out 2 run double in the 5th inning to put the Gators up 32- and then had a 1 out double in the 9th that drove in a run. Calilao, who had been hitless on the night, got a 1 out, 2 run double in the 9th after Josh Rivera was intentionally walked to get to him. Ty Evans finished the scoring in the 9th with a 2-out 3 run homer. Wyatt Langford was 2-5 on the night, Sterlin Thompson was 2-4, while Ryan Slater got the win, pitching the final 2.1 innings and giving up nothing but a walk to the first batter he faced. Starter Brandon Neely only lasted 4 innings, giving up 2 runs on 4 hits with 4 walks and 7 K's. Phillip Abner went 1.1 innings, only give up 1 hit with a K. Fisher Jameson went 1.1 innings and gave up a run on 3 hits and a walk. The pitching tonight got themselves into some jams, giving up 8 hits and 6 walks, but they got 2 double plays and left 10 Bulldog runners stranded. The bullpen held up tonight, so congrats to these young pitchers for showy some moxy in front of a huge, hostile crowd. A sweep would be nice.

RPI is at 13. The road victories, despite beating a lowly rated team, are huge.

MSU is nearly mathematically eliminated barring a crazy SECT run. They probably have to win 5 of their next 7. Tough sledding.

One thing we still haven’t seen is a close it out mentality. They needed the Sunday game against UK, they came out flat. Will tomorrow be different????

Won 5 out of 6 for the first time since SEC play began.
Now 5-6 on the road in the SEC, flirting with a winning record in SEC road play (need to win 3+ of final 4 road games)

No matter the record of who we play, every SEC series is a grind where the guys have to come focused and ready play. There are no easy games.

Caglianone and Evans- gotta keep them in the line up.
Jac looks like a future big time hitter with a very high ceiling. And Evans with two huge hits last night and some pop. Gotta keep these guys in the line up.

What was the bellicosity last night with Riopelle? That pitcher seriously pissed him off.

Nick Pogue is starting today, as is Kris Armstrong at 1st base. Jac at DH hitting 5th and Ty Evans in RF hitting 6th. Halter still at 3rd.

    Big sweep this weekend!!!!

    Shouts to
@Matherly87 for the positivity. Good job brother. Love the glass half full approach.
@74nole for always keeping everyone come… But you know when he gets fired up then we all are allowed to ha ha.

    Pitching was A+

Pogue- awesome and could be key if he can consistently do this.

Jameson- super solid!!! Dude could be huge down the stretch.

Sproat- stud that we thought he would be!! Leads us off each Friday night with solid outings.

    Abner- situationally he’s really producing.

Langford- One of the best in the entire league in so many aspects. Tough out at the plate and hustles like the old-school players we used to know.

Sterlin- his 8 walks were very impressive and his bomb came just at the right time.

BT - what more can you say besides this kid set the tone Friday night and then today defensively saved us early. What a pick up by Sully.

And speaking of Sully… Kudos for the lineup switch as Jac has been a star, Halter looking better lower in the line up and Ty Evans not only was a great move inserting him in the lineup but looks like a future star. Nice to see Armstrong get a chance today also as looked solid defensively and think if he’s continually given opportunity will produce at the plate.

Will be interesting to see who we put on the mound Tuesday night.

    Bunch of random thoughts:

    great start for Pogue.
Remember when Sunday games used to be 12-8 kind of games every week?
Gators now guaranteed to be above .500 at years end.
Likely two more sec wins clinches the tournament, but given our computer rankings (see below), we might not even need that.
I am 100 percent not kidding when I say I would prefer to give up the homer we gave up in the last inning than a walk in that situation. Kids are finally learning, throw strikes with a lead and make them beat you.
The team is getting incrementally better. It may not be in time for this year, but hope is justified.

and non gators note, we may have just wrecked MSU’s NCAA chances. They have an RPI approaching 100 now, and their last 2 series are at A&M and home to UT. This was a devastating series for them.

    but our metrics:

Gator baseball got the sweep at Miss. St. in front of the best fan base in all of college baseball, beating the Bulldogs 6-2 to go to 29-18, 11-13 in the SEC. The Gators host Bethune-Cookman Tuesday and then travel to Missouri next weekend for another crucial SEC series. Today it was all about the pitching, IMO. Nick Pogue threw 5 innings, giving up 1 run on 4 hits with a walk and 4 K's. the run he did give up scored on a high infield pop up that got lost in the sun by Rivera & Halter and fell for an RBI single in the bottom of the 1st. Fisher Jameson threw the final 4 innings to get his first win as a Gator, only allowing a walk and a solo HR in the bottom of the 9th, with 2 K's. On offense, Florida tied the game 1-1 in the top of the 2nd on a single from Caglianone and a double by Ty Evans to lead off the inning. After Kris Armstrong lined out, Josh Rivera got an ground out RBI, with Colby Halter making the final out. The Gators took the lead 2-1 in the 8th on a HR from Sterlin Thompson and then broke it open with 4 runs in the 9th. Armstrong got a 1-out walk, Rivera got an infield single, Halter walked, Wyatt Langford hit a 2-run double and Thompson had a 2-run single. Other than Jud Fabian striking out 5 times, it was a solid day for the Gators and will hopefully propel them to a nice stretch run.

Never thought we would sweep Miss st. Conversely, never thought we would get swept by Ga.
Looks like Mizzou and Miss St could be the 2 teams excluded from Hoover, but still 2 weekends to go. More work to be done. Quite a fall for the defending NCs tho.

Ole Miss kept their slim postseason hopes alive by sweeping Mizzou and Bama continued their slide, losing to LSU, not unexpectedly. Right now, I see 8 SEC teams making the postseason, including UF.

Gotta go to Mizzou and play with the same urgency we played with this weekend. Mizzou will playing for keeps as they would be eliminated with 2 losses this weekend I believe. We HAVE to come to play. At this point 2/3 would be good.

Can someone bring me up to speed, please.

Fisher Jameson, where's he been? Injured, now recovered?
    Pogue, ditto?
    Caglionone? ditto?
    Where is Milchin?
I know where Manning is, so I dont need to ask.
Do you all think Abner and the Finn need to stay on the bench, unless it is 21-0 game and one out to go.

Based on the recent players, in 3 game series say SEC tourney, whose the best 9 batters and 3 starters?

You forgot Ty Evans. The two freshman replacing D Fabian and KC at first give us the best lineup. Bring DF and KC as defensive replacements in 8th/9th. Abner is getting work whereas Finnvold and Manning are not.
