This country's only deeply rooted rights are for white men. What is Alito, Italian? He wouldn't qualify for any deeply rooted rights.
I am old and have learned long ago to not get upset about proposed legislation but to take passed legislation seriously.
Several states are going to invalidate Loving. SCOTUS might do their member a favor like they are doing ignoring his wife trying to foment the insurrection.
Except they would've just set the precedent that matters like these fall to the states. He wouldn't have a say if his home state said it was no longer legal.
Of course, because it’s in his own self interest it is expected he would take the legally inconsistent position. Perhaps we’ll find out if a degenerate state like Mississippi or Alabama decides to “go there”…
You'd think. They also all said they weren't overturning Roe. And you could have states like Louisiana who said they knew what they're doing is unconstitutional but they were making it law anyway whether abortion is legalized or not, and just do it anyway, citing THIS as their precedent. Thomas may vote against it but that leaves the rest.
So the upshot is women who cannot afford to travel out of state for reproductive healthcare are just out of luck or face old school back alley abortions. BRAVO!
Assuming that Roe is overturned and states enact varying laws regulating abortion in their states. Does anyone see a migration of people to or from a state based off of the abortion laws of the state?
I'm not saying its a vast right wing conspiracy but a case could be made. One individual is largely responsible for this ruling. He selected 5 sitting justices plus the deceased Scalia. You may not know much about him but he has an outsized influence on your country. Roe v. Wade was step 1. LGBTQ rights are step 2. Get to know him. Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse has referenced all the dark money that flows into and from this group many times. Leo the Cancer WHAT LEONARD LEO wants you to know about Leonard Leo, first and foremost, is that he is a Knight of Malta. The Sovereign Military Order of Malta (SMOM) is a lay Catholic order that claims descent from the Knights Hospitaller, founded in Jerusalem in 1099, at the end of the First Crusade. It’s an extremely selective group. Of the 1.2 billion Catholics in the world, only 13,000 are Knights of Malta—although most of them don’t go around bragging about it. But look at him now! Leonard Leo, 56, has made himself one of the most powerful figures in the United States. He’s put five—count ‘em, five!—justices on the Supreme Court: Amy Coney Barrett, Brett Kavanaugh, Neil Gorsuch, Sam Alito, and John Roberts. A sixth, Clarence Thomas, is one of his closest friends. And, perhaps most impressively, he quietly led the 2016 crusade to deny Merrick Garland a hearing, when Barack Obama nominated the highly-regarded jurist to replace the late Antonin Scalia (another of Leo’s pals). In the lower courts, he’s been even busier. He’s installed so many judges on so many courts, it makes you wonder if he really is the instrument of God’s will he believes himself to be. I mean, there are only three branches of government. One of those three—arguably the most important one—is Leonard Leo’s domain. But it’s the financial networking that moves the needle. Leo sits like a giant spider at the center of a complicated web of non-profits and PACs and 501-whatevers: The Federalist Society, which identifies, develops, and grooms future conservative judges. The Judicial Crisis Network, the PR arm of the operation. The Becket Fund, a legal outfit that does pro bono work for religious freedom cases. The Freedom and Opportunity Fund, which helped bankroll the Brett Kavanaugh nomination hoo-ha. Reclaim New York, a charity Leo set up in 2013 with Rebekah Mercer and Steve Bannon. The Council for National Policy, the Christian coalition group. And God knows how many others. Between 2014 and 2017 alone, they collected more than $250 million in such donations, sometimes known as “dark money,” according to a Post analysis of the most recent tax filings available. The money was used in part to support conservative policies and judges, through advertising and through funding for groups whose executives appeared as television pundits.
In terms of the desire for more adoptable infants, this is not the only implicated area of law In This Episode The private adoption industry has been fighting against the Indian Child Welfare Act the longest. We learn why by following one couple’s journey to adopt and their mixed feelings about the process. 4. Supply And Demand | Crooked Media To ensure that IAP was to succeed, the IAP had to increase both the supply and demand for Native American children among Non-Native Americans. Lyslo often portrayed the IAP as responding to growing public interest; however, he had in fact carefully cultivated the demand for adoptable Native American children. He did this through the placement of articles concerning the adoption of Native American children in popular magazines, religious publications, and family planning journals; and also produced segments regarding the adoption of Native American children for TV and radio. The IAP often utilized images of unwed Native American mothers, deviant extended families, and hopelessly impoverished and alcoholic parents in order to reinforce stereotypes.
