Urban is going to Texas, hook em horns. They promised him 84 pumping oil wells, one for each player on the roster. Break out like this: Recruits get 33% of oil profits pumped Owner keeps 33% Staff, AD, Univ. President get the other 33% 1% goes to academics - remember Urban only recruits the top 1% of the top 1%.
That's all self serving talk to reduce the buyout. Don't believe a word of it. The give away: he never said what he couldn't trust him about.
Wrong. Some punk snipe on a cell phone made it everyone's business. I refuse to hate Urban. He brought us two Natties. I could give less of a shit who he bangs. But to each their own.
I understand why someone would dislike Meyer, but I don’t get the hate. The major criticisms about him seem to be very human fallibilities. Woody Hayes has an athletic center named after him, despite walking onto the field and punching an opposing player and Bear Bryan has a stadium named after him, despite being openly racist. Granted kicking his kicker was not a good look, but there is controversy as to if it was done in jest. My high school coaches said and did some things that would never be tolerated today.
“Hate”? Putting it that way, you would be right. But I haven’t read any “hate” towards him. If you back that down a notch to “dislike” or “disrespect”, which I think is proportional, I can understand that position. Whether any of us agree with it or not is good debate.
I don’t “hate” him either. He did a ton of good for us and is one of the greatest college coaches of all time. I do think the blame falls on Urban though, not the person that recorded it. That’s like saying the fault for making Wades conversation public about paying off players is the fault of the person recording it. Wade deserved being exposed and I think Urban earned that too. What Urban did was really stupid, some could say that is “punkish” also. I hated to see it and pray he addresses these issues that seem to have been haunting him and his family for years.
The mind game crap you can do in college in terms of treatment of players or coaching staff don’t work at the professional level. His skill as a recruiter of 17 year old kids and winning over parents has no impact on the pro game. Saban realized this as well with the Dolphins when he ran back to Bama. Plenty of stories about Saban and treatment of players while at Dolphins, such as stepping over an injured player in locker room area without any care for the player. Plenty of stories of Saban mistreatment of coaches back in the day as well. Just a function of often challenging to take a college coach and transplant them into the pro game.
You are correct, and well said…. I meant “hate” in the sense “haters gonna hate.” I guess some have a visceral reaction when Urban and the ROH are brought up.
Every time I see this thread title, I’m thinking, dang, he was fired again? Why doesnt he just go to his bar and hang out?
BS complete BS I played HS football 72,73 no coach was allowed to touch us. One finally did a long time venerated employee was fired In the US Army Basic Training at Ft Dix no drill sergeant was allowed to lay a finger on you. None ever did. I don’t like Meyer because he’s a liar and a coward. If that’s a “hater” then fine.
Sorry buddy but it’s all on Urban. If his team had won and everybody flew back to Jax and Urbs got filmed bumping with a hot chick this side of the St. Marys River I wouldn’t have a problem with it. But given the sad state of his team and coming off yet another loss, sending them back and going out to party in Ohio was a big no bueno. Screams serious character issues to me. And I’ve been one of his bigger supporters on this board.
I don’t hate him either. If it was a hof or best coach award, I could se that. Honor though kinda sounds like someone with very high integrity. I’m glad we got the two titles but he kinda tarnished himself a bit. His exits have not been pretty.
