And now they have to get a building permit from Orange County to put up so much of a sun shade. I wonder how much a pain in the ass that will be for Disney and what the cost will be.

What a bizarro world we are in. Self-proclaimed conservatives celebrating that the government is successfully chilling free speech.

I agree Republicans would indeed be against that move, and liberals for it. Unless it came from Trump, and then it would be the reverse.

This is a billion dollar win for Disney. You can’t require Reedy Creek to pay back its binds if you deprive it of its ability to raise revenue. And, you can’t put the bondholders at risk like that. None of this was ordinary investment risk. It is the same as the state dissolving a City and making no provision for the state to pay back its transportation improvement bonds. This is all settled law. That is why Disney issued the guidance, “business as usual.” When the state tries to stop them, the state is going to get its backside handed to it in court.

Our governor NEEDS a culture war. It gives him power. It gives him recognition. It gives him adulation with a core base, but disdain with those not in his cult.

He is the one who wants to divide our country, and takes every conceivable step to further the divide.

And his cult wants The Great Divider to be our next President?

He speaks and governs only for a base of sheep followers.

He is wholly incapable, and grossly ill-equipped, of leading a Nation.

DeSantis does NOT care about lawful action, he cares only for popular action.

Yes. But why should his supporters be impressed with a losing, manipulative, and dishonest ploy? I think I'd feel used and resentful when the truth came out.

This is not a win for a Disney, and it is not a win for our State, and certainly not a win for the people who will be hit directly in the pocketbook.

Disney will no longer to be able to efficiently develop and improve property. That will affect its bottom line in a material way. There is a reason why the THOUSANDS of special districts spread throughout Florida are sought and utilized - normal government is not equipped to effectively handle the time-sensitive necessities required in large scale construction and development.

It is not a win for our State. Forgetting the politics (and it is a sad day when first amendment rights are eviscerated by a thin-skulled politician), the State loses the influx of other potential large corporations, who will discuss this matter in their board rooms and make the decision to steer clear of Florida soil for company operations. The Desantites will disagree, of course, but a logical and impartial study will scare any Boardroom from a State that retaliates at the whim of perceived discontent.

Central Florida will lose jobs on the construction industry, because development will dramatically decrease. With a construction slow down, the overall economic will be hot, reducing tax base State and local income. And, of course, the municipalities will no have to absorb the outstanding civic/public works and services provided by Roddy Creek (police, fire and emergency, amongst others, without the necessary corresponding revenue, plus the absorption of over a billion in public debt.

Rarely in politics does one see so many losers with one political act.

Terms like fascism and communism get thrown around too far too much. They're usually meaningless.
But in this case, if Republicans really not only tolerate but actually celebrate and praise a chief executive who uses the power of the government (the people's government) to punish those who speak out against him ... what else do they really stand for other than fascism?

Agreed. I don't think I've ever used the term fascism before on this board. Or really in life. This should be a slam dunk GOP position with government first amendment violation against free speech. Yet you see them here cheering it on. It's absolutely insane.

And subsequently they are super concerned with free speech on Twitter, a private company. They legitimately have no ideals anymore. Just whatever fits their desires. A sad state

Kind of like Obama’s IRS investigating and looking to punish the Tea Party?

In early May 2013, the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration released an audit report confirming that the IRS used inappropriate criteria to identify potential political cases, including organizations with Tea Party in their names.

No, it's not like that because they also investigated progressive groups. To be clear, it's unacceptable behavior from the IRS. Yet, you're not going to find the liberals on this board applauding the IRS for doing that or even trying to say it's okay. DeSantis singled out and punished a corporation for criticizing one of his policies. That's beyond unacceptable.

So now that you've engaged in your whataboutism and I've been very clear what the IRS did was wrong, are you prepared to condemn DeSantis for what he did?

Distractions - looks like the current leader of Florida is learning from the leaders in Washington.
