You may disagree with him, I certainly do, but that's an example of a man who knows his priorities and is willing to compromise to achieve his top priority. There are many Republicans like him and that's why a red tide is upon us. On the blue side, we have a bunch of pampered idealists who'd rather expend much needed political and financial capital in a war on another continent than to focus on winning the battles that could actually affect our lives back home. I guess life has been too comfortable for some, and they don't know how to sacrifice one priority for a higher one anymore. Striking down Roe v. Wade would be an unprecedented move backwards in women's rights in the developed world. And really, this is very possibly just the start. If we want to avoid further losses, then we need to start concentrate all our efforts on things that truly matter to us, such as the economy, women and minority rights, and the environment.
What thoughtful and mature approach would lead one to conclude that any abortion is murder, but it’s okay to murder unborn children if a rape was involved? That’s not “thoughtful and mature,” that’s cognitive dissonance. The only way I can fathom that rationale is if it’s a purely pragmatic approach, with pro lifers figuring that they could never get a majority on board with forcing rape victims to carry to term.
I think it more of someone who is willing to make that decision, bit based largely on false talking points like abortion right up to delivering happening everywhere. And the dems are terrible at messaging
It seems to me that there's a clear and present danger that certain rulings may now, and in the future, subordinate the state to the church.
This. The right has decided a Christian autocracy is the USA they want and no one will stop them from instituting it.
Next up with the crazy….Louisiana..where a legislative committee just passed a bill making abortion murder committed by the mother from the moment of conception. Guess Trump meant what he said when he said it.
To get to where they want to be, they'd need an actual time warp, back to, I don't know, the 1930's? Legislate all you want, but the gay, abortion, women's equality, etc. genies are out of the bottle, and they're not returning.
That’s what I said way upthread. Thanks for the citation! You get an A. Recognized the issue (50%) and reasoned it perfectly and succinctly
This is only the introduction of a bill. I would be surprised if it passed. But it does signify a certain almost unquenchable bloodlust within the hard part of the movement that won't be satisfied with any half measures. I doubt they ever go through with something like this, but it does show you the intensity behind a substantial portion of them
The first signifier in his Twitter profile proudly proclaims that he is a Christian, which means he professes to worship the most prominent victim of capital punishment in world history. Seems normal to express that adoration through wanting to extend the death penalty
And here's the conundrum. Doctors have said that it is impossible to determine whether or not a patient had come in with an abortion-pill/agent induced abortion or a miscarriage. So a woman could show up for help with a natural-occurring miscarriage, and then if they DONT believe her she can get arrested. For having a miscarriage. Or if a woman goes out of state, and a nosy neighbor decides she's looking chubby, reports her for going out of state for an abortion, she'll have to prove where she was, why she was there, etc. Could be a business trip. She'll have to prove her innocence. It's unconscionable that some agree with this. If it was happening to men there would be an uproar. Force men to have vasectomies. Have to prove they had it or that they're married and financially stable. Ban Viagra because it promotes sex. Ban all testosterone supplements. If a man is caught with anything like it then they go to jail. Ridiculous, right? Right??
Have they blocked the plan B pill yet (or whatever it is called now) Given the uproar since its inception, that will be coming
