Full vaccination for measles is about 97% effective from preventing breakthrough cases. Measles is also highly contagious, meaning to reach herd immunity, there needs to be over 90% vaccinated. Drop below this rate, and there will be an outbreak of measles, like there was in 2014 in S. California. In this case, it was more the whacko-left wing anti-vaxxers, who instead of listening to medical scientists, follow the genius of people like Jenny McCarthy.

Right. So we make people wear seat belts to protect more than just the person in the car.
Im glad my sister was wearing one when involved in an accident that took her best friend.

Vaccines prevented a lot of kids from being orphaned.

Vaccines kept young brides from being given away by a substitute.

Vaccines kept my dad healthy despite COPD and at my sons baseball games this season and allowed him, myself and my little boy to sit 5 rows up at a ballgame last week.

Vaccines have helped my 18 year old dodge bullet after bullet and never test positive during an event filled senior year.

Vaccines helped way more people than just some vulnerable people directly.

They helped all of us that love and need those people.

I dont support mandates, but I also dont support the vaccine haters either.

    Just stop it.

    Why the Come On Man?

The vaccine saved my dads life in all likelihood. He nearly died 3 years ago from a respiratory illness... Covid was very dangerous for someone like him, but he barely got sick other than a mild fever.

My wifes 83 year old grandfather barely had a cold after being vaxxed

We are pretty happy they are both fine and dandy.

Why isnt that a factor in weather vaccines are a good thing or not?

    Really Tilly?

I am not a vaccine hater. Myself and my kids are vaccinated for many different things. I supported these new drugs when they first became available for the high risk groups and feel anyone that wants to take them should. It is flat ridiculous that we are on the second or third iteration of the omicron variant in different areas yet still using the same drug to fight Covid. It took less than a year to get that drug we are using out. Fire away if you want with how many boosters you wish to take. Moderna asking for EUA for 6 month olds to 5 year olds with the same drug we have been using is just stupid and nuts. Healthy kids are at almost no risk.

So again...take the drugs if you want. We are long past the need for the ones they keep pushing. They need an updated one at this point. They need to actually put money at the science that can provide good policy.

Here is a great 2 hour clip by three doctors. All of whom are vaccinated. All of whom support the vaccine. All of whom understand there are real problems with how things are going in healthcare and Covid. It is a fantastic listen (from Covid to just healthcare and pharma). A lot could be learned. But we have scared people so bad they cannot think straight anymore. Vaccine hesitancy is increasing at an alarming rate. That is not good. But you tell me to stop it? You stop it.

awesome. it prevents you from getting measles, which in turn, prevent you from spreading measles to another. the meme i replied to used the measles as reasoning for getting the covid vax, but their protections are quite different.

Yeah, Q's words have definitely been either twisted or taken out of context. He's been a long advocate of young & healthy = not necessary; high risk group, go for it. I don't recall him actively discouraging anybody here from getting vaccinated. His emphasis has long been being healthy is a better way to fight COVID than with a vaccine. We've seen the "healthy kids at no risk" play out. We are never privy to the medical records of those who have kids that have fallen severely ill with COVID. Some will take that to be random until it's shown not to be. As for us, we lean on our pediatrician's advice (which is still healthy kids don't need it).

One of the challenges to the idea of "being healthy" is probably along the lines of people thinking they are a "good driver." People have different standards as to what constitutes "healthy" so those with lower standards will see themselves as being healthier than those with higher standards. And still, some with higher standards may be missing out on key components that are relevant to COVID impact.

We are far past it now perhaps, but we weren't a year ago. Im not trying to take shots at you. I just dont get why people with your pov say anything at all.

If no one is making you get it and you are fine with others getting it than why so much pushback?

Why the constant reminders about age of vulnerability as if that is relevent? Sorry I came off jerky, but I just dont get it.

"Clearly vaccination is not perfect at stopping transmission, but critically, less viral replication was occurring in vaccinated people as a whole group. Emerging evidence from Denmark, still in preprint, suggests that the same may also be true with omicron."

"Despite the virus now appearing to evade vaccines more than it used to, ongoing commitment to global COVID vaccination is definitely still key. The number of times the virus gets to replicate overall will be reduced by a tiny fraction for every single person that is vaccinated, and this has to be our best option for managing the threat of future variants."

    "Verdict

A claim was made on social media that Covid-19 vaccines don’t reduce transmission.

Research shows vaccines reduce transmission of Covid-19 but they do not stop transmission completely. The Delta and Omicron variants in particular reduced the effectiveness of vaccines against transmission.

However, the results of multiple studies still show that transmission is curtailed in Covid-19 patients who have been vaccinated compared to those who have not. Ultimately, vaccines still help to prevent Covid-19 infection.

Therefore, the claim that vaccines don’t ‘even’ stop transmission is MISLEADING."

FactCheck: A claim that Covid -19 vaccines don’t stop transmission of the virus is misleading

Never expected you to be one that would say something like this. By far the most disappointing thing I have ever seen you say.

I post because we continue to push a drug with bad policy. And I will stay vocal until that changes…

Do COVID-19 vaccines protect against the variants? - Mayo Clinic March 4, 2022
    Get vaccinated.

"I am not a vaccine hater. Myself and my kids are vaccinated for many different things. I supported these new drugs when they first became available for the high risk groups and feel anyone that wants to take them should." Sadly this is precisely why we will be forced to mandate in the future. Because poster selfishly believes covid won't affect his family, doesn't get vaccinated. Millions of people would never have contracted polio, measles, smallpox etc. but for the common good, ALL took it to protect everyone. Guess mandates worked. This time too many didn't vax and we got stuck with variants because of it. Not hard to be better.

No…we have caused great damage to public health and vaccine hesitancy by coercing people to take a new drug they did not need or want. You have this all backwards.

It is getting worse because they are pushing the same drug designed for a variant long gone and they know is not effective against the new variants. They chose the wrong policy and continue to push it. The generational damage being done is unacceptable…

And there it is, the same broken record of gross mistruths and even more gross lack of understanding being passed off as fact. There has been study after study showing no significant reduction in protection from severe disease and death. I have published them in this thread myself. In the finest tradition of propagandists, however, you just keep on repeating the same falsehoods and ignorant non-sense. You may not be an anti-vaxxer, but sure seem like you are an anti-truther.

Ironically, you do accidentally back into 1 very good point about the bizarre drive for a 4th shot, despite almost no data showing that there is any benefit to that shot beyond a very short-term boost to neutralizing anti-bodies. However, many experts are opposing these 4th shots precisely because the original vaccine provides tremendous protection against severe disease and death, and we have yet to know the limits (if there are any) to that protection. We know from SARS-CoV 16 years after surviving infection, Memory B cells and T-cell germinal centers in the lymphnodes were were strongly present and reactive. It is reasonable that protection from severe disease against SARS-CoV-2 will trend much the same.

For anyone interested in reading about the opinions of the Nation's experts (ie, people who have forgotten more than I will ever know on the subject), please read the following:

Experts fear U.S. may default to annual Covid boosters without sufficient data

We know the high risk groups. They are at risk vaccinated or unvaccinated. They can make that decision. Pushing these drugs on healthy people has caused generational damage. That said…Pfizer and Moderna are banking. All while we are now over two years in with the same drug designed for the alpha variant spike protein (brought to EUA in less than a year). Yet we are on iterations of the omicron variant that has and have already evaded the new drugs with no problem.

We know enough for people to make their own decisions. My parents are over 65 and unvaccinated. They would have gotten the vaccine had they not gotten Covid late July early August of 2020. The only time they missed seeing their grandkids…late July early August as we were scheduled to be in Niceville to see them. Just moved that trip back a few weeks and they have not missed their grandkids once. There has been no need miss being a part of their lives. Yet so many have allowed this to miss such important times. To each their own. But this disease was politicized from the beginning (bipartisan by the way). It really is unfortunate the fear so many lived by unnecessarily through it instead of recognizing the dangers and being smart.

But hey…mask up. Heard about this study/experiment today done back in the middle of 2021 at Stanford where more bicyclists wore masks riding their bikes than helmets LOL.

“That works out to a masking rate of 41% and helmet-wearing rate of 17%. So, Stanford students are about twice as likely to wear a mask on a bicycle as a helmet. To be certain, there’s a margin of error here -- I can only count so many cyclists at a time, and I’m sure I missed some. But the point stands that at one of America’s leading research universities, students wear masks on bicycles at a higher rate than they wear helmets.”

Review Analysis: Stanford students are more likely to wear masks on bicycles than helmets

    Absolutely, completely FALSE.

From the beginning, the vaccines were developed primarily to reduce serious infections, hospitalizations and deaths due to Covid. Tens of thousands of people were dying and our hospitals were overwhelmed. Without question, the vaccines have been very effective in achieving this primary objective. And, that remains true with Omicron.

That said, they have been less effective in reducing the spread of Covid, especially with the Omicron variant. Even so, most studies have concluded that the vaccines reduce transmission to some extent. (See the 2 links I posted above.) But, the vaccines are not good enough in reducing transmission. So, they are urgently researching ways to make the vaccines as effective in reducing transmission, as they are reducing hospitalizations and deaths. Screenshot_20220427-120936_Chrome.jpg

The disease is less severe. It attacks differently now. The newer variants have been much more upper respiratory than than deeper in lungs. But you tell yourself these new drugs are the reason for that.

We need a new generation. That said…the damage done to vaccines with long term track records when it comes to vaccine hesitancy is going to be generational. The people that want the new drugs have taken them. There is no reason to be pushing for 6 month olds to 5 year olds to take this drug. The data does not support it at all. Yet that is the current push. Along with a booster here or there. It really makes you shake your head. But some just comply.

You keep saying the same thing over and over. The vaccines haven't "damaged" anything. It's the virus that has caused the damage, with people making it worse by not protecting themselves as best they could.

Even less effective in stopping the spread in more recent variants is superior to not being vaccinated and definitely & unequivocally superior in keeping people out of the hospital and morgue.

The hospitalization and death numbers show this. Shake your head all you want but it's the deluded, often on the right, who used to think like you do, but they can't any longer because they're dead from covid.
