Yea I need to check that spreadsheet with the classes. It’s so complicated now with the extra covid year.
This article laid out the numbers pretty well. If Billy Napier isn’t exaggerating, a massive roster change is coming | GatorCountry.com
I agree and thanks for saying it. Makes you wonder. Patience is a virtue for a reason. Some have it. Some don't . Hopefully, they will down the road. The way recruiting is these days with college sports generally and including the portal and NIL, you will not see coaches or players rushing into anything. It is the age of silent auctions for a reason.
I honestly don’t know how coaches are supposed to manage this now. You have to beat out every other school financially for a high school kid who has never played a down in college, then your current players see how much you got him and they put their name in the portal to get paid, so you have to outbid every school for your own player. All the while the budget of NIL money has to be managed. No coaches would prefer this over going to coach in the NFL. The intention of NIL was good, but what it has so quickly become is sickening. Something has to be done to get it under control or everyone will be turned off of college sports completely.
Exactly, and the school is NOT supposed to be involved. We think it's simple, just make an offer and close the recruit, but the guys recruiting (coaches) aren't the ones making the contracts (collectives), which aren't the ones actually paying (boosters). We're trying to "do things the right way", which unfortunately also means slower, by having extra care not to commit possible violations, talk to everyone involved first, make budgets, and analyze contracts as if it were a big company merger. All the while Jimbo (now Cristobal) are just snake-oil salesmen type that will do anything to close the deal ASAP whatever it takes, and let the boosters and lawyers clean up the details and numbers after. Let's trust Billy will do things right, fast and effectively. Tons of top recruits left and they'll let the bidding go as long as they can.
