As far as cutting the Freshman a break on their stats - bear in mind that only Falby, Walsh and Roe are Freshman. The others are all Soph and up (including Red Shifts). Each of the "upper" class players is at or less than their prior years EXCEPT Skylar who is the new Mandy Softball. She pays ZERO attention to Aric and only talks to Mandy SB. Aric steers totally clear of her (thank God). Delbry is a Freshman but since her opening month has been used less and less and has lost total control of her pitches. # years under Mike B and Barnhill never learned a Change Up. The pitcher for Arky (Delce) who was a portal pick up from Tulsa learned a Change Up and drop ball in 1 day by the Arky pitching coach per the Pig website. This is all Tim should need to say good bye to both overpaid and over rated coaches.
As far as offense goes, I think it’s consensus we need a change. However when your email looking at stats you have to remember that even these ones that aren’t freshman for the most part have not been relied on before. And again with the pitching, Barnhill had THREE year with Rocha and never developed. Her ONE year with Bosch she did attempt a change up and threw a good drop pitch. Also got legal. And I don’t care what Arkansas keeps saying, that transfer did not learn a drop ball good enough to throw in games in one day. Pitching doesn’t work like that.
I get what you’re trying to show here, but there is a huge competition discrepancy between OU and UF schedules. Do I think OU has more talent pitching wise? Yes, but it is not as far of a gap as what stats would lead you to believe. Bosch came in at the last year of the last high rated pitcher we have. He has done far more than I ever imagined with the pitchers we have.
"each of the upper class players is at or less than their prior years" ???? Longley is up 13 points over last year Adams is up 14 points Goelz is up 31 points Kistler is up 227 points Lindsey is up 16 points There are essentially 2 players down, Echols and Wilkie
UF Softball shut out Stetson Wednesday night 5-0 to improve to 36-12 heading to their weekend series at LSU. Lexie Delbrey picked up the win to go to 11-2, going 5 innings and giving up only 2 hits with 6 K's and no walks. Rylee Trlicek threw clean 6th inning and Elizabeth Hightower struck out the 3 batters she faced in the 7th. On offense the Gators got 10 hits, led by Cheyenne LIndsey (2-4), Charl;a Echols 2-3, RBI), Reagan Walsh (1-2, RBI), and Kendra Falby (2-3).
Amazingly, as of yesterday our RPI was still 9th. And we are 17-10 at home and 13-2 on the road, 5-0 neutral.
I think if we win 2 of 4 from FSU and LSU plus win a SEC tournament game Gators will get to host a super regional.
Forgot about FSU. I think we win 3/4 we are set. I would feel a lot more comfortable with 2 wins in sec.
Echols is down big time, an argument could be made that if she hit like she did last year, we would have 6 more wins. Nice to see her get two doubles today, maybe she’s coming around just in time.
The only average that I really pay attention to is the SEC BA. Hits against bottom feeder schools are nice but when we face real pitching it is a different story. ie - first time with USF and we run rule them with a host of poor pitchers. Last week their big gun pitches and we bang out 2 hits and "steal" a win courtesy of Skylar. How bad would we be without Skylar? I shudder to think where we would be.
If you are bored and have time on your hands, watch the replay of the W KY Alabama game. W KY played as good of a first inning of softball as you will ever see both defensively as well as at the plate. There is a parking garage directly behind left field packed with with Hilltopper fans. Also, W KY has a player with disease called Erb's Palsy which I believe pretty much restricts what she can do with the upper right side of her body. She catches and throws the ball with the same hand plus her batting average is north of 350. Watching this game was fun, interesting and inspirational. Give it a try. I'm sure you will enjoy it.
Their "Big Gun" has a Covid year left, any way you can convince Georgina Corrick to pitch here next year?
This hasnt been updated since 4/20, but D1 Softballs latest projections D1Softball Field of 64 Projections: April 20 • D1Softball
That looks pretty favorable for the Gators. I would hate to face USF and Georgina Corrick in a Regional. I would hope USF gets in the tournament somewhere, though. They could spoil somebody's season.
