I assume the governor knew this and is well aware of it. There is a reason Disney has not been vocal about pushing their false narrative. That said...I also think DeSantis is playing big boy politics and Reedy Creek will not go away but be reestablished. Just my guess.

All I know is I’m putting him in notice that I intend to sue him. All of his changing positions to eke an argument why DeSantis is correct, because he is the greatest governor ever, gave me whiplash.

Talk about a "false narrative!" DeSantis has knowingly created this whole Reedy Creek mess, all the time in possession of the facts! (In your opinion.) Outrageous! Is that what you think constitutes "big boy politics?"

Far better to assume he knew nothing about the legal particulars. At least then he's just a stupid and ignorant man. If he enacted us this political theater knowing full well his bill stood no chance of changing anything, well, then, he's a contemptible liar operating in very bad faith.

Please don't sell DeS short on this. It is entirely possible that he was both: "he's just a stupid and ignorant man." and "he's a contemptible liar operating in very bad faith.". Give credit when due.

You have now literally admitted in this thread that Disney didn't violate any laws or commit any unconstitutional acts and that the bill likely can't or won't be enforced, amid dozens of posts about how you're right and everyone else is wrong.

Situationally stupid and willfully ignorant, perhaps. Personally, I think he's been aware of this information all along, and deliberately, and with callous aforethought, threw the big, juicy raw sirloin out the back door anyway.

As usual for the right wingers if the world, he is misrepresenting a bargained for benefit and property right as a special privilege. The Orange and Osceola Counties actually have the special privilege of not having to provide these government services because Disney does it. And Disney accepted that burden in exchange for assuming massive debt and developing the raw land into what we call Disney. Tyrants forget their deals and re-define the terms into something that they are not. Somehow, to this poster, calling the removal of Disney’s bargained for right of self-governance a “special privilege” and asserting that Disney can still say what it wants, but it can pay the price of a “misrepresentation,” allows him to justify the tyranny of what he calls the majority. He just doesn’t address Perry v Snyderman because like so many, the law is what they think it is and not what SCOTUS actually holds. Take these same arguments and arrest the CEO of Disney. Because he misrepresented the law and mud face political consequences. The CEO can still say what he wants, but there are “political consequences.” There is no difference. Once government can punish speech, speech isn’t free anymore. What everyone needs to understand is the assault on freedom that is taking place and the onward rush toward authoritarianism. This is what authoritarians do. Spurred on by the likes of these people. They do not deserve any respect. And their ideas need to be called out for what they are. Deplorable.

You literally don’t understand why punishing speech violates free speech. Alexy Navalny says hello. Or all the prisoners of Soviet Gulags. Exactly the same, except for the nature of the retribution. Freedom of speech isn’t just prior restraint; part of its essence is that you cannot be punished by government for it. But you keep pushing that narrative. What a truly limited understanding of civics.

Bingo. Thank you. The property rights and contract argument have been ignored. Which is why I have kept posting them. The bond holders have a clear claim that their contractual rights were impaired, which is a constitutional no no as well. Disney has it’s property claims.

Republicans aren't big on property rights or upholding contracts these days, so it is understandable that they might miss those minor bits.

    Sounds like a slam dunk.

Sounds like Disney should sue then.

I hope they do. Lord knows they have the lawyers and the money.

If it's as you say, seems to me like they can make Florida eat this loss, and they can make DeSantis eat the political loss. If it's a fight they will win, why the Hell not?

I'm on the side of legal transparency, here, more so than DeSantis or Disney.

IRS Apologizes For Aggressive Scrutiny Of Conservative Groups

"The controversy began in 2013 when an IRS official admitted the agency had been aggressively scrutinizing groups with names such as "Tea Party" and "Patriots." It later emerged that liberal groups had been targeted, too, although in smaller numbers."

"Some conservative groups said Thursday the Linchpins settlement offers the first real apology from the agency. Catherine Engelbrecht of True The Vote, with its own IRS lawsuit, said, "For the first time, the IRS admitted their discrimination against conservative groups was wrong and unlawful."

If you still don't believe me that Democrats have been using governments to take punitive action against business entities who engage in speech or hold views they don't like...

    Because of Freedom?!?!
Banning books, students/parents suing teachers because they dare to mention hardships a race might have encountered, passing law for non-issue with can’t say gay bill, businesses now have more regulations on what they can discuss on diversity, and wesponizing gov to retaliate against a business because they made a comment that disagreed with desantis. (So much for maga being pro biz.)

And right or wrong - not even getting into things like pot and gambling.

no, Florida is not a overly free state. just because desantis makes that claim, doesn’t make it so.

Unless you’re black, Asian, Hispanic, LGBTQ, a student, teacher, college professor, business owner, cruise ship company, kid wearing a mask, textbook company, or cartoon mouse. Everyone else gets white Christian freedom.

Lincoln always has relevant insight, on the way the terms “liberty “ or “freedom” have different meanings to different people

The world has never had a good definition of the word liberty, and the American people, just now, are much in want of one. We all declare for liberty; but in using the same word we do not all mean the same thing. With some the word liberty may mean for each man to do as he pleases with himself, and the product of his labor; while with others the same word may mean for some men to do as they please with other men, and the product of other men’s labor. Here are two, not only different, but incompatible things, called by the same name—liberty. And it follows that each of the things is, by the respective parties, called by two different and incompatible names—liberty and tyranny.

The shepherd drives the wolf from the sheep’s throat, for which the sheep thanks the shepherd as a liberator, while the wolf denounces him for the same act as the destroyer of liberty, especially as the sheep was a black one. Plainly the sheep and the wolf are not agreed upon a definition of the word liberty; and precisely the same difference prevails to-day among us human creatures, even in the North, and all professing to love liberty. Hence we behold the processes by which thousands are daily passing from under the yoke of bondage, hailed by some as the advance of liberty, and bewailed by others as the destruction of all liberty.
