Interesting how we went from "can we even field a team next year?" to "how many spots do we [have] left?" If we can pull in Broome & Kugel to go with the others we added/retained, we go from an embarrassment to an embarrassment of riches!
This post aged quite well-got everybody back but Duruji. We got our point guard, a Wing who could start, and a Long Combo Forward, all with 3 years of Eligibility left. The really good thing about Portal kids, but especially one's with 3 years left to play, is that they are the most locked in players you can get in this day and age. If they want to leave the Gators, they can't transfer again without sitting (unless they've graduated). I think we'll see that kind of continuity pay a lot of dividends 3 years down the road when these kids are still together.
Another post that aged well-Golden really has gotten a helluva lot done in only 4-6 weeks. As of now We are ahead of the game. One more quality transfer. I'll take one at any position. Another Top 6-7 type contributor would go a long way.
Update from Bullis: All the staff have agreed to take Kugel. It's now in the stage of figuring out how to get him in school.
Hopefully at worst they can put him the first summer program available...Or you'd almost think they'd let kids finish diplomas up online after all the distance learning with Covid.
Can we slip a little NIL money to the powers that be in the admissions office? Academics no longer mean squat in college athletics.
This is a terrific point. That’s like college basketball gold: kids who have already proven they can play collegiately, have 3 years of eligibility left and will only leave your program for the league (unless they graduate and can be a grad transfer).
I knew UF wanted him, and I knew he had interest, but I didn’t know it was all simply down to the academic issue or whatever it is. I would think a player of his caliber has plenty of high major schools who would also make it work. Is he really that committed to going to UF? If so, that’s great news. I think this kid has great potential.
From what I hear the staff are helping him with his academic goals in whatever way they can and I think this is what keeps the kid in the class. We are all rooting for him.
