Never realized how many people count on social media censors to protect them from all the evils of the world. It does explain why so many are addicted to big government

They can, but I can also see a bit of tension between the two tweets. Of course I happen to very much agree with one and very much not with the other.

The richest man in the world, who co-founded Paypal, made electric vehicles a real possibility and revived space travel in America....just bought a social media company that was tanking aka Twitter.....yeah, you can bet Elon Musk has a plan.

Not zero, but the thing was massively overvalued as it was, in my opinion. They are well over a decade old and have never turned more than about 100 million in profit for any year, with a market cap of around 40 billion. They aren't that asset rich. And he is risking shares in his actual profitable business for it. But yeah, we will see.

They weren't tanking. By any definition of the word. They have never been profitable, but people were still (and apparently are still) throwing money at them.

There is definitely tension if the idea behind the second point is that government should do something to fix the problem.

However, that aside, it’s certainly fair to point out that a huge portion of our social media in Facebook, IG, and Twitter will soon be controlled by just 2 people, and the other most important internet company (Google, incl YouTube) is controlled by only 2 people as well. That’s a lot of power in very few hands.

I'd argue that you need to add in Snapchat and TikTok as very substantial social media outlets too. Much of this has to do with age though.

The key word I took from this was “my opinion”. I’m going to go with musks take over yours at this point. Call me crazy.

Well, I am surprised that you waited this long to be your usual self. It was nice while you were being pleasant and discussing an issue for a few posts. Oh well.

True enough, although Snap is also controlled by its two founders, and TikTok is Chinese, which comes with its own host of questions.

You make great points, but that technology alone is a premium that other sites cant claim. So maybe he makes only a premium side "bot free" as an add on? That might be stream to fish from.

I am a huge fan of Twitter. Great news and sports. Love to use it during Lightning/Rays games (its like a huge game thread) I stay here for Gator games of course. Some great comedy and really good journalism exists as well.

Most of the negativity out there is from people who don't use the app and wanna bash it and its based on the side freaks that pollute it.

The app itself is really great for info exchange and conversation if you are selective on how you use it.

We just need to, because conservatives on social media are so deep and erudite and morally principled, you just can't argue with them. They just espouse such high level thought

Like in March 2020 when Musk tweeted his "take" on Twitter that the pandemic would be over in April of 2020? Lol You go with that, crazy.

Will free speech kill twitter? Will those subjected to hate and vitriol abandon twitter for platforms that will not tolerate it?

    Interesting take

Opinion: Who will be the first to abandon Elon Musk's Twitter? - CNN
But I predict that allowing harmful forms of "free speech" -- like misogyny and hate -- on Twitter will actually have the effect of silencing many people and will be disastrous for the social network. That's because thoughtful users aren't going to voluntarily keep using a platform on which they're bombarded with abuse.

And the first people to flee are likely to be those who are on the receiving end of the worst of it: women and people of color. A 2020 study by The Economist Intelligence Unit found that 38% of women around the world have personally experienced online threats such as doxxing, hacking, stalking, misinformation and defamation, and 85% of women have witnessed it. According to the United Nations, at least three quarters of the victims of online hate in many countries are members of minority groups.
    .......
It's easy to predict what would happen next. If Twitter becomes a place that isn't inclusive and is notorious for spreading questionable and hateful content, public figures won't want to be associated with it and will stop using it, too.
