Yea, certainly not one person rule. Certainly feel free to listen because I’m sure I’m not doing them justice. I tried to summarize. But it was more in the context of the war footing, the ethnostate, while still being a thriving democracy and prosperous. Much breaks down in the analogy, but it was thought provoking. He added Erdogan in the mix of those seeking that type of nation, as I think about it

I have recommended this book before (so I will do it again :)) The changing world order by Ray Dialo gives a long look back at the reasons countries/kingdoms/empires rise, the reasons they do so and the reasons they decline. War is one of the BIG game changers as I think Russia will demonstrate.

    Glad I don't see Sullivan's name there.

No intent on my part to direct that toward you personally, though I can see how my use of the word “you” does just that. I gladly rephrase as follows: If one does not like our current level of military spending, then they should strongly assess how much more will be necessary if Russia wins and we insist on maintaining the present world order, both conditions of which appear more likely than not at the present.

I agree, but what difference does the meeting make if Sullivan is the one the President is going to listen to at the expense of the actual national security experts?

Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, on _elensky, roughly translated, “He’s drunk half the time, drunk the other.” LOL

would be interesting to see how we compare on efficiency for defense $ spending. For example our spending on personnel is approx 25%.

Hey, what happened to Biden being a "war monger," and "Russia isn't going to invade?" Care to admit you were wrong?

At least I got the first one right. The US is determined to fight Russia to the last Ukrainian.

Okay, you’re the guy who cited years-old analysis to warn us off from intervening in Russia’s unprovoked, aggressive war against Ukraine because — what was it? — we would get our “tails whipped” by his underperforming, unmotivated, and obsolete armed forces. I’m just curious. Do you carry more current instructions and/or propaganda this time?

So your position is that Russia wasn't going to invade (they did), but Ukrainians should just give them their country (and we should do nothing to stop it as well) once they did invade, which you assured us that they wouldn't?

I’m certainly willing to fight Russia to the last Russian in Ukraine. Is that close enough?

Right, because the US army has completely turned things around in four years.

This would be big. I’ll believe it when it happens. If we were that dependent on Russia oil not sure we would stop importing. We went apoplectic when our prices went up $1/gal

Except the US is not fighting Russia. Ukraine is. And Ukraine drove Russia out of Central Ukraine with the help of the US and other Western countries. Because Ukraine does not want to be part of a Russian Empire. Ukraine yearns to preserve its freedom from external domination.
