DeSantis held school funding hostage for those that disagreed with him. Did Newsome use the power of his office to penalize the people who disagreed with him? Like Trump, everything is personal with DeSantis and all issues are win/lose with no compromise

So how did DeSantis go from being very popular in Florida prior to COVID to enemy #2 behind the resident of Mar-a-Lago? My theory is that DeSantis got a taste of what it is like to be the face of the Republican Party. He took the full force of press and Democratic attacks normally reserved only for a Republican POTUS Candidate. I think that caused him to take a full bunker mentality with his staff and feel that he could not allow any attack to go unchallenged.

I'll take a thin skinned politician to one that has a history of authoritarian actions.

Republicans have made it clear that they hate Disney, the NFL, major league baseball, teachers and science. But they have an affection for Vladimir Putin, middle-class tax hikes and mobs that beat up cops.

DeSantis mandated what businesses and schools could and couldn't do with regards to vaccinations and masks. With regards to covid, he was just as authoritarian as any other governor. With regards to everything else, he is more authoritarian than most governors.

So in other words you're saying DeSantis can't handle criticism. We agree there. He lashes out at his critics and gets revenge. That's a very bad trait for a governor or president to have. It's also a very common trait amongst autocratic leaders.

not a fan of judging others by public opinion as the average public isn't informed enough to have a meaningful opinion. the more he has read his press clippings and basked in the glow of the maga nation, the more confrontational and rigid he has become. If Trump and him both run, the primaries should be interesting theatre

would good leadership seek to work with / diffuse the opposition when attacked or take a full bunker mentality and counterattack using the power of your public office to help your defense, and your offense, merely because the oppostion opposes you

Most every else has opened up, but Florida kids still can't go on field trips to places with vaccine requirements, even if the parents want them to go.

So, the bottom line to this if it happens is Osceola and Orange counties would have to provide 911 emergency, hospital/medical, fire (200 firefighters would have to be replaced), permit, and construction services that Disney now oversees itself. Disney already pays taxes, so both of those counties would have to provide these expanded services with no extra money. Meaning local tax hikes to those who live there to make up for the sprawling resort that is twice the size of Manhattan. All of Disney's construction over 55 years has been paid for with zero FL tax dollars because of Reedy, but Disney pays about $550 million in state and local taxes annually. Taxpayers would then be on the hook to pay for expanded construction and roads, etc.

Sounds like a lose-lose situation. But this coming from a guy who just wants to score political points and got his feelings hurt.

They'd also have to eat around $1 billion in debt that currently is on Disney's books right now.
Special district bill will leave Orange, Osceola taxpayers with Disney debt, Democrats say

This is a clearly fascist effort: "If you publicly disagree with my policies I will use the power of the government of Florida to punish you!" That is a fascist abuse of power!

This is in addition to his "thought police" efforts to make sure teachers and professors not espouse views in opposition to his.

This man, like the Republican Party overall, is fascist. He has shown it to all of us right out in the open. If you vote for a person who has shown himself or herself to be a fascist, then you are a ______?????

But all we here from Republicans is they are against tax hikes and government debt, yet they are downright giddy over this. This would add a huge burden to central Florida for no reason other than he was publicly challenged by someone else and he is upset that anyone dare say something in opposition. This from the supposed "freedom" governor.

He has no problem taking Disney's tourism money for the state. Disney is also one of if not the biggest reasons why Florida doesn't have a state income tax.

Because Disney has now been defined as liberal and anything liberal must be destroyed. Principle matters not. Republicans are tearing themselves & their party apart and as they do, they're tearing America apart. That's the lesson of the last three decades.

So you should be allowed to give political donations to influence state policy, but not allowed to withhold in order to influence state policy?

no, he did too, but in the opposite direction, by punishing counties or school districts that implemented mask mandates.

At least the Blue Governors were doing it with an intent of community safety, he was doing it out of retribution.

DeSantis is a much more competent Trump with his authoritarian leanings.

And that’s just the tax side, not the Orange and Osceola need to provide services for the Reedy Creek Improvement District that they are wholly unprepared to provide.

    But libs owned, amirite?
