Ouch. That doesn't sound too promising in getting Reed back. Since he's coming from UNLV, I wonder if he's been the one recruiting Reed. Probably has developed a relationship with him over the last few weeks and this one may have stung. Maybe we can replace Reed with Kyeron Lindsay who Hartman recruited and signed for UNLV. Possible coincidence that he also decommitted yesterday from UNLV. Although I think Ward should be the top choice to bring in another 3/4, but I really hope a spot is left open for Kugel also.
I mean, Castleton coming back, while a huge win for us, represented an unexpected development that drastically curtailed available minutes. When Reed committed, it was considered a foregone conclusion that Castleton was leaving for the NBA after the 2021-2022 season. So now you have Castleton coming back, and he's going to be on the court as much as humanly possible. If we successfully bring in Johni Broome, that's another guy who's got a starter spot and huge minutes locked down. Broome played 28 minutes per game last year. Castleton played 30 minutes per game. It's easy to pound your fist on the table and lament the weak character of The Kids These Days and demand that, like all those who came before, they march uphill through the snow both ways and accept a couple minutes of playing time per game with gratitude for the wisdom and generosity of their elders. But Reed committed to a specific coach with a specific depth chart in mind, and now that coach is gone and the depth chart is completely different and could become even more imposing soon. I don't begrudge him looking at his options.
Wow great eye on the Kyeron Lindsey call. 4 star PF, #83 player in the country (same area where Reed is ranked), Hartman is listed as his primary recruiter and he also decommitted yesterday. Very interesting, would really give me some confidence that this staff has a plan for every contingency if we’re making a move there
I said in another thread, it has always seemed difficult to give out that 11th, 12th, 13 scholarship in basketball as certain kids want guaranteed PT and if they see that jeopardized they bail. We were at 12, now back to 11. Billy D I doubt had the full 13 very often. I wonder if even the Dukes and Kentucky’s end up using all 13? Some of those coaches only use 7 or 8 man rotations, so I would wonder how many scholarship guys they have on their bench.
Hence White taking a chance on guys like Gatkek & Kennedy to fill final roster spots, take a chance on upside and they can hit the portal after one season if there’s nothing therw
I believe that Billy D had only 9 scholarship guys playing when they won the title in 2006. Fortunately, no one got injured.
Wow, Lindsay really is an interesting prospect. While he does seem very similar to Fudge at 6’8” 205, it would be really hard to turned down a kid who averaged 19 and 11 as a junior and 28 and 16 as a senior. Listened to the kid in an interview and the kid comes across as a very intelligent, impressive young man.
I'm disappointed Reed decommited but hope we have a shot with kyeron lindsay. Watched some highlights and he has a nice game, decent handle, some post moves and a 17ft jumper.
Broome visited multiple schools, we are in the mix, but people talk like we are the favorite. It would be nice, but let’s be realistic.
Yeah that was his initial list, pretty cool we’ve reportedly made the top 2 considering we already have Castleton and those are some top tier programs
