The fact that he understands how it’s supposed to work is what makes him more dangerous and the fact that Republicans would prefer to work with him is an understatement.

As the Republican Party heads full bore down the authoritarian track, they have no regard for their constituents and their only goal is consolidating their power. This is a dangerous place to be.

It’s actually worse than overly liberal big government regulation, at least regulation generally has noble intent. Sometimes it becomes unwieldy, subject to its own bureaucratic corruption, or even just arbitrary, but the intent is to try and fix a wrong.

This isn’t threatening “oversight”, it’s threatening political retaliation. Let’s just call it what it is. Abuse of power and corruption.

Agree. Ron DeSantis is a smoother, more intelligent and more stable version of Trump. Although I could be proven wrong I still think Trump is running for the presidency. The Donald's narcissistic personality disorder is such that he desperately does not want to be thought of as a loser and the next presidential election is his last chance for redemption. Conceding that it's unlikely I'm hoping that the Donald and wannabe Trumps like DeSantis, Hawley and Pompeo split the primary vote of MAGA nation enough allowing a more moderate traditional Republican like Mitt Romney or Larry Hogan to end up with nomination. Probably won't happen but almost no pundits expected Trump to end up with nomination in 2016.

No. My issue with Biden is that he does not seem to always be at the top of his game and may not be as mentally sharp as you need a POTUS to be. The problem with Trump was he had no idea what he was doing. I don't think is good for the US or the world to have POTUS's that have those issues.

Disney picked this fight. Business has pressured state government over issues with threats to leave. Time to call their bluff. Businesses need to be shown they need to stick to business and not try to dictate state policy.

The people in the Republican Party that you think are "full bore down the authoritarian track" are the people that staffed the Trump Admin. The people that sat on the sidelines are the establishment Republicans and would happily work for DeSantis, that includes the Romeny and McCain factions of the party.

Disney absolutely did not pick this fight. This is typical DeSantis performative bullshit that will cost Florida taxpayers in the courts.

Everyone who has an ideological or partisan bent would take an incompetent ideological foe over a competent and effective one any day of the week, twice on Sunday. If you think running Trump again would be a disaster for Republicans because they'd do worse in an election, you are basically agreeing with that take, likewise any liberal thinking Trump would be best for their own electoral hopes.

I voted for McCain and Romney both and the Republican Party has been heavily damaged by the Trumpkins. I don’t know that I will ever vote for Republican again if they keep going down this path. BTW, I WAS a registered Republican, NPA now.

I’m not sure that there is a place for Romney/McCain folks anymore and you know that as well as I do.

Bob Iger picked this fight and dragged the new CEO of Disney into it when he was trying to avoid it. DeSantis should get that. He was able to get a political win out of it and should move on. There is no need to keep this going, especially when Disney wants out of it. If DeSantis becomes POTUS, he needs to be able to have a good working relationship with big business.

Disney got involved when they made a public statement, they allowed themselves to be bullied into making a statement. I have yet to hear anything from other large corporations in the state.

They didn't even say anything until the bill had passed. They basically stayed out of it until it was too late, which angered their employees. DeSantis simply didnt like that they said anything.

I'm sorry but you are wrong. This is what happens when the Establishment of a party boycotts their party's POTUS. The new POTUS' people get to come in and take over the party apparatus until there is a new candidate that takes over as the nominee and they clean house. If DeSantis is the nominee, you will see the Establishment Republicans come back in to work for him and push the MAGA types to the sidelines.

I'm more concerned about having stability in the Oval Office right now. We have had two straight POTUS' that don't have a firm hand on the wheel.

So no one can make a public statement that isn’t kissing the guv’s butt? Disney gives heavily to Republican legislators and DeSantis himself and that arrangement has worked out well for all parties involved.

Again, DeSantis is nothing but a thin skinned performance artist.

BTW, do you have any idea how many Disney employees are LGBTQ? Disney was trying to thread the needle and did a poor job.

All businesses should keep quiet and just do business, not try to dictate public/govt policy to one side or the other.

If families and parents truly have a problem with Disney, let's see them cancel their vacations, season passes, and Disney Plus accounts.

Because you are clearly someone that knows what is actually being said and discussed in Republican circles.
