And how many fours post you up in college? Game is massively different nowadays. But I completely agree that you have to complement him with someone more physical in the post to counteract disadvantageous match ups.
Samford played VMI this year 2x. Here's how Glover/Bonham stacked up: Game 1: Samford 80, VMI 99 Player.....pts.....rbd.....ast.....stl.....t/o.....fg% Glover......18.......4........3........2.......1.........44.4 Bonham...16.......5........8........2.......1.........45.5 Game 2: VMI 99, Samford 100 Player.....pts.....rbd.....ast.....stl.....t/o.....fg% Glover......26.......4........10......2.......1.........41.7 Bonham...31.......5........3........0.......3.........69.2
One thing to add to that Box, Bonham was like 16-18 from the free throw line in those two games, which made his scoring *shooting exponentially more efficient, which raises his True Shooting %. Which is one thing Coach is big into.
Huge. This is the type of pg that Florida needed. One who values the ball and has a really good ft%. Love this commit. Golden has it rolling right now.
We needed a good true point guard and we got one. Even if we don't add any others, I feel confident in this group going into next season. Bonham looks good at the free throw line... 82.6% this past season. That's important.
Erving Walker made his career in the final 10 minutes, usually hitting clutch free throws down the stretch. Bonham's taller and hopefully a better shooter from the field, but if he can accomplish what Walker did here, I'll take it. Erving Walker - Men's Basketball - Florida Gators
Good to see Erv get some love. I really enjoyed the Walker / Boynton years. Matter of fact… Kenny Boynton should get more props than he does here, too.
Kenny Boynton HAS to have the all time record for 4 point plays with that jump shot of his where he let go of the ball on the way DOWN. Wondering if that is a stat that is tracked (4 point plays)
In a recent interview, Fudge said he was 6’7” and 178 lbs in highschool, but is now 6’9” and 200 lbs.
His shot was both sweet and ugly at the same time. Don’t ask me how. One of my favorite Gators of all time. I still use a move I saw him do years ago when I play. Kind of a hop skip into a hesitation dribble. As long as I don’t mess it up, it works every time. I won’t use it more than once per game, though. Usually when I have an tough defender on me and I want to break him.
For a guy who doesn't even play for the gators , Glover gets more press than anyone. Tampajack should be in the PR business.
Trey Bonham at point guard seems like a very good one for Florida. However, Bonham averaged about 27 min/game at VMI; who would be the back-up point guard? On previous Florida teams, not having enough ball handlers led to some fatigue issues (i.e, the 2010 NCAA Tourney game against BYU comes to mind when Walker/Boynton could not have anyone to relieve them during that OT-game). Would Florida sign a second point guard or would they just settle on one of their many combo-guards already on their roster to serve as the 2nd-point guard distributing the ball to others: - Myron Jones - Will Richard, - Neils Lane(showed some ability to pass) - E.Kennedy, Denzel Aberdeen(Fr)? Also, I believe that's 6-guards total on Florida's future roster along with 2-centers (Jitoboh, Castleton), and 3-forwards (Reeves, Fudge, Felder). With Jalen Reed's status with UF up in the air, that gives Florida with 11-total players (on scholaship) on their roster.
^ I suspect Aberdeen and Kennedy would compete for those minutes, with Jones or even Lane in an absolute pinch. Would not be surprised to see us bring in somebody else, though you want to have room to recruit next year. Other thing to bear in mind is that an offense like this doesn’t necessarily require a traditional point guard, so there is some flexibility in the skill set you employ at the one.
