Here's a great stat line found in the game notes..... MARCH ON, JUD During the month of March, Fabian led the SEC in total bases (54), slugging (.857), walks (22) and home runs (10).
I might not have an answer for our pitching problems now but here is some names to keep track of for the future. Florida Baseball Earned Run Average - MaxPreps Name------------------ School --------------------------- ERA IP ER R BF GP 1 Jake Clemente - Sr Stoneman Douglas (Parkland) ----- 0.00 32 0 0 118 18 2 Jerandy Carballosa - Sr Gateway Charter (Fort Myers) 0.00 18.2 0 1 70 22 3 Wyatt Speers - Fr Cottondale----------------------------- 0.00 16 0 3 58 15 4 Brock White - So Forest (Ocala)------------------------ 0.00 15.2 0 2 66 14 All four of these pitchers have not given up an earned run this year. First on the list is current Gator commit Jake Clemente who is a RHP for the top team in Florida, Stoneman Douglas, who should march their way thru the state playoffs again. At the bottom of Jake's notes, it says excellent student. We can only hope he doesn't go pro and has ambitions of college. 2 and 3 on the list I know nothing of. Number 4, Brock White, is a very interesting name because he is from OCALA and he is a sophomore LHP. Everyone has been wondering if we can get a pitcher from Ocala, so let's hope he is interested. I'll be checking with any of my contacts here. Ocala Forest is the same school that Kirby and Hunter McMullen were at so maybe we have an in. His velocity only says 79 but that was last fall. I don't recall any Douglas kids playing ball at UF, but they do have an excellent baseball program and play a good schedule.
Ocala Forest pitcher Kolten Smith originally committed to Alabama in 2020 but now PerfectGame says he's committed to Georgia. Kolten Smith Class of 2022 - Player Profile | Perfect Game USA
If Vandy starts a RHP on Sunday my lineup would be..... Jud Fabian (R)- batting .400 this season when leading off an inning and our highest OB% in SEC games Thompson (L)- even though in a slump hits RHP much better than LHP Langford (R)- No comment needed Riopelle (L)- No comment needed Rivera (R)- holding solid in the 270s Guscette (R)- hits RHP better and our third best average in the SEC Armstrong (S)- someone else who can play third but with power Calilao (R)- up and down Halter (L)- Struggles against RHP and most everybody else for now
87— And whether Earl is a LHP or RHP is a mute point—Deric needs to sit. He is completely drained right now and further use just buries his confidence that much deeper IMHO. He is going to be a really good college player but right now he has no positive focus—he truly needs a break.
In spite of his struggles, Deric has gotten the game winning RBI in two of the 3 games we've won the last 2 weekends. Just sayin'.
At 6-9 we are 3 games out of 3rd in the SEC. Sad part, if we had won just 1 game at Georgia we would only be 1 game out of 3rd right now. The further we fall this coming weekend makes it more important the teams between us and 3rd struggle as well to give us a shot at going on a run to finish out and give us any chance of a decent finish. Doubtful we finish in the top 4 but something worth keeping an eye on. Georgia is at Bama this weekend so have to hope Bama wins the series.
I was contacted over the weekend with information that Sully's future at UF is very much in doubt. Apparently the Sully to LSU talk last year was real to the point that LSU rescinded their offer. It was said that UF admin wants Sully out sooner than later but is hoping Sully will get another offer before then in hopes of not dealing with the buyout. It seems either Sully will be fired after the season or they will mutually part ways. Call it rumors if you want but the information I get is almost always right. I believe it because of the strange things we have seen in games between the continual lack of enthusiasm on this team, the strange ending to last year and the regional collapse, the pitching staff lack of development, and the lack of changes in the lineup.
Ole Miss could be open I suppose this year. South Carolina could be open. I don’t know enough about some other schools (Clemson??). Not sure where other than someone like those 3 there would be sufficient interest that he would be willing to not take his buyout if that rumor is true.
Wow, that really surprises me. I agree that in just watching games the last 2 years something does seem to be off with the team. Wonder what the issues are?
I have zero inside info but it doesn’t make much sense to me. The last few years have been “rough” by Sully standard but Sully standards are insane. At the end of Pat McMahon’s tenure, most UF fans envied Miami and the SWAC for their tournament streak. Now, UF envies LSU type dynasties. Totally different world and it is because of Sully. Just hard to see how the administration could feel this way but I don’t know anyone in or anything about the admin
Getting swept at Georgia has been a killer on the season so far. Losing an SEC road series is always possible, but getting swept is hard to overcome. And it being Georgia makes it even worse.
I find it pretty surprising that we would this quickly get rid of the only coach that has won a baseball NC at UF for strictly on the field reasons. There would have to be something damning on the non baseball side or this just plays into the "spoiled fanbase" mantra. Sully would be quickly scooped up IMO. I was told a rumor awhile back that LSU passed on the hire due to something non baseball related, but considering that the source was not a Gator I just blew if off as sour grapes.
Alright baseball aficionados, Sully suggested that they will meet with team doctors tomorrow to discuss Barco about this Friday. That makes me wonder if Barco can't start then who do we go to for our weekend rotation? I say leave Sproat and Neely in the Sat/Sun spots and then try to figure out what to do about Friday. That might leave a few clues from tonight's game if they are grooming someone in case. My two possibilities would be Nesbitt or Manning. Nesbitt first off did not pitch tonight and has shown decent stuff at times and could go up to 3 innings to get us once thru the lineup. Manning is my dark horse because he hasn't pitched in a while. But I did find it very interesting that before the game tonight someone, not a player, was working with him on his throwing motion out on the field by himself. It looked like they were over expressing a long pitching motion to set his wind up and release point. He also ran out shortly after the starter Hartman to throw some before the game before going out onto the field for additional work. Maybe nothing but Manning is the one pitcher with 4 starts this year and might have a chance to settle himself down against the number 1 team coming in.
