I like that so far Coach Golden has gotten guys from the portal with multiple years left to play. I think that will pay off in the long run. Not sure if it was intentional or just worked out that way, but hopefully we'll get to know these guys instead of them being one year rentals.
One of the top available transfers Johni Broome breaks down final eight schools Johni Broome 6'10PF 16.8points 10.5 reb 3.9blocks
My prediction: all Florida. Why? Because, as I posted before, this is going to be the All Pun program. Getting Broome will be a clean sweep.
Yeah, but, but, the broom that sweep’s doesn’t have an “e” on the end. Turning serious, this could come down to whether Broome would start at Auburn but not at UF. Auburn does have a big man transfer coming in. I don’t know how good he is. Could Broome get 25 mpg at UF? If so, I would think we could get him.
As much as I like Jitobah, you'd take that trade in a heartbeat. He's the #1 big man transfer in the country. Literally can choose any college in the country. Gonzaga, Duke and UK also offering. You get him to commit and find a true pg and you can forget just making the tournament. Pencil Florida in as a top 25 team imo. I wonder how Golden is selling playing time. CC and Broome front court would rival any school in the country.
I agree. If we get Broome and a top point guard, we are, at least on paper, a potential Final Four team.
Unless Jit has lost more weight and improved conditioning, he is unable to play 25 mpg. Has some offensive skills, but if not dedicated to change body composition, perhaps not a good fit for Golden offense. I think we are going to run more under Golden.
Not even close for 3 reasons, the first being that he is signing better players, the second being that there will be some other good players on the team in addition to the transfers, and the third being that Golden almost certainly will have them playing in a system that works for them.
I hope you are right about the last two factors, but remember among the transfers last year, were two defensive players of the year in smaller conferences and two guys from power conferences that had disappointing years and will be back. We are also losing three of our top four scorers. The biggest hope for a great season is recruiting an experienced ball-handling, distributing and foul shooting point guard.
Hell when Payne and Locke left (on top of Lewis) I recall thinking “total disaster”, like we’d be this years Georgia team struggling to get any conference wins. The transfers we brought in I thought brought us back to realistic bubble NCAA team, at least when Castleton announced his return (without Castleton and I would have thought we were locked in to a losing SEC record). I think more posters might have bought in on us having a top 25 team after the start, for a minute. I actually thought “maybe we are onto something” after the OSU game. Then we were eventually reminded Mike White was in charge of the X’s and O’s. White tended to underperform what we appeared to have on paper. Particularly his last 3-4 years where we were stuck on the bubble. Next year I’m more confident in the roster as of now, so hopefully Golden can show he can get the most of his guys at this level.
