Something like 1 hit in last 15 appearances with a runner on base. (2 GIDP over that stretch) Go GATORS! ,WESGATORS
What’s his average? Man, the kid was one of our best hitters in SEC play last year, is top 2-3 again this year and single handedly best FSU!!
He's already batting ahead of Deric. As for Halter, he's streaking in the right direction (.375 last 4 SEC games, 6 hits). Sorry if you already posted, but what is your preferred lineup? When I posted what I did, I wasn't trying to dog on Rivera. Just pointing out stats to back up what DD11 was saying. 5 for 8 first two games. 2 for 11 last four. I hope you're right, but let the kid develop a sample size. Go GATORS! ,WESGATORS
The entire point is that you're picking and choosing when and how stats matter, or sometimes don't matter against things you've made up in your head. The specific players have nothing to do with it.
Rivera has tons of talent, but is very streaky offensively. His defense is much improved over last year and like Jerry Reed said, "When you're hot, you're hot. But he has a lot of K's and double plays at bad times. The alternative is moving Halter to SS and bringing in Thompson to play 2b, moving Calilao to RF and putting Armstrong at 1b. Or leaving KC at 1b and putting a bench guy in RF. Or Riopelle at 1b and Guscette behind the plate. Guscette has to be in the lineup. After a slow start, he's proven to be a steady hitter.
Stats speak for themselves as does Rivera’s SEC average last year and so far this year. Not picking and choosing. It’s a fact he’s one of our best hitters against the best competition over a solid period of time. Guscette is another one that o feel some gave up on. With both of them numbers don’t lie. Interesting to me…do you feel hitters in our line up that are batting well under what Josh is hitting are better? Not sure how that could be if your hitting 180 or 220.
Are you saying maybe sit Rivera? Love Halter but hasn’t hit in 2-3 weeks and at the very least should be moved to 5-6 in order. You mention his defense and your correct as he’s having a good year defensively. he’s not coming out of the line up. Interesting you mention several possible moves with 1 moving Armstrong into the line up. What I didn’t see was the most obvious move there is….move Armstrong to third for Fabian who is hitting 158 in SEC play. Amazing to me we keep going at a 289 hitter and one of our better hitters the last 2 years in conference yet we will not discuss ( a few have) sitting someone that’s obviously struggling.
In conference play, Rivera is fielding at .931. Last year he fielded at .955 in conference play. Including all games he is at .959 this year which is better than last year’s .935 overall.
Josh has been fine in the field this year ex ball players that have played at high levels have said Josh’s range is better than most and actually will cause Him to make an extra error or two due to balls he can get to that others can’t as throws he’s making Are some of the more difficult throws in the game. I’m talking about Belmonte ( who managed minor league clubs) Cardozo, and others. Guys that know what they are talking about or telling us that Josh is going to make himself some money and that he’s very underrated/underappreciated and I would agree with them. By comparison Deric is fielding at a .919 clip.
Not saying to sit. Rivera. Just throwing out options. And I do agree that Armstrong was one of our best hitters in SEC games last year and probably should be put in the lineup for a lengthy stretch to see if he can come around. As for Halter, he's hitting .375 in our last 4 SEC games, 6 hits.
If you look at last year’s stats To this year you see two things: Once again Josh is consistently hitting as per his average in SEC play both years. overall fielding is up. again, I’d defer to guys that I’ve done it for over 40 years like Nick Del Monte and a guy that played at a high-level like Cardozo when they talk about Rivera. Can’t ignore what they are saying.
Thanks for the stat on halter maybe in my mind I’m just seeing him against Florida State the other night and his average has dropped 30 or 40 points in the last three weeks but glad he is getting it going and SEC play as that’s very important
