I'm as disappointed as you are. Richards said he was looking forward to playing with him and so was I

I think Kowacie was a fan favorite going into next year, if he kept improving his game, just selling thousands of jerseys would have him making good money. Add additional NIL deals to come and add on, he would be rollin in style. Working on a UF degree at the same time, I thought Kowacie had the world by the tale. I guess the show me the money world of college sports has arrived for the Gator. Kowacie, if you are reading this, I thought you were a great kid, good student, seemed to be progressing quick. Hopefully you will reconsider and lead the Gators to the final four!

This is where Reeves was headed in the list of Gator fan favorites. I truly believe he was going to be one of those guys the fanbase would always put on a pedestal.

They would complement each other nicely, so hopefully it’s not be about being the “featured” player.

Honestly Golden is killing it so far, so even losing Reeves isn’t as devastating as it might have seemed a few weeks ago. However, with how he came on at the end of last year it would be a shame to lose him. I was thinking he’d be a pretty solid potential starter at the 3 (between him and Felder). If we look at our roster that 2/3 spot was the one “crowded” position, but I think alot of fans were thinking Reeves had the most upside.

I hate the nba but at
least you know how long of a contract your players have. Greed (from everyone) has killed amateur sports.

I would say that would be a better benchmark, if in fact Fudge got an NIL deal.

Obviously Castleton is basically the face of the program and one of the biggest names in the SEC next year. It would be ludicrous for Reeves to demand the same deal, whatever it was Castleton was able to get. At least for next year, who knows maybe Reeves could be the face of the program after a big sophomore year.

However if Fudge or any transfer got an NIL deal then you could perfectly understand why a rising player would at least want that. Why should transfers “get paid” and other guys get nothing? If only transfers get paid, then everyone will transfer lol. What do people expect?

But yes, all of this shows why this stuff is getting stupid and ruinous to college athletics as they were known.

He should sell hats that look like his hair that fans could wear to the games.

This is why I wrote my worry of Kowacie possibly getting some bad advice. I didn't think about an NIL deal for Fudge though. Regardless, it seems like something that could have been worked-out quietly, behind-the-scenes, and not publicly with entry into the transfer portal. Then again, I'm in my 60s and would have done a lot differently if I was 18-19-20 again. LOL!

Here's how Reeves' year progressed. He had a slump against the top teams late in the year. Few minutes & few points. Not sure if he was in White's doghouse or had something else going on. If not for that period (and assuming he progressed along the trend), he could make a good case to cash in on "NIL".

One thing the NCAA can implement is to get rid of the immediate eligibility on transfers...that would curtail some of these guys acting like free agents every year if they had to sit for a year without playing. The NIL money and ability to be immediately eligible after a transfer is a combination that can't continue if the sport is going to keep its popularity. Even the NBA doesn't turn over players at this rate.

I kind of wish they would go to the baseball rules. Everyone is eligible for the draft out of high school, if they don't like their draft poition, they can go to college, but have to stay there for 3 years.

Add to that sitting out for a year when tranferring (and no NIL that first year), and you have a pretty solid structure for players being able to get paid, and coaches being able to know what their roster is going to look like next year.

Word is Chandler Parsons is helping with the Gator Collective. GC even followed Reeves Dad recently. May be a sign that he will be staying on the team after all. If Parson's is part of the NIL for these kids, then this is really good news for our future.

I agree, thought that wide open “free transfer” thing was only for covid? Although the NCAA had already become absurdly inconsistent and pretty generous with handing out exemptions for players to be immediately eligible, and FL has benefited from that too so it’s not like it’s a one way street.

I’ve always been ok with “grad transfers” since it seems like a kid earns that free transfer. But it seems too unstable right now.

Word on the street a very nice NIL package to stay. Wasn’t going to be drafted and this kept him from going overseas. KR probably wants the same. Tank did it at Auburn, got his deal and pulled out of the portal. It’s a new world.

I agree 100%. And yes if transfers are getting NIL deals, then that turns the transfer portal into a free agency market. If that's the case, kids will jump from team to team after a good season so they can get paid. They'll need to enforce the sit for 1 year rule or we're in for a real shit-show every year.

Interesting. Wonder if Reeves entered the portal mostly as leverage. I'd hate to be a coach these days. Being a fan is stressful enough. Then again we're not getting paid millions
