Lest I be accused of bashing an ex-coach and have my comments deleted, I will say that under Golden, we would get totally different results from 90% of the players that left this program in the past 7 years.
You also have to factor in the "bad rep" he now has for almost having decapitated the Tennessee player. He is not going to get the benefit of any call in college for the rest of his career.
Jacksonville U is perfect for him. Like Ques Glover, his flaws will be less exposed against that level. Good for him.
I can't begin to describe how annoying and misinformed this post is. Why don't you go watch a few of Samford's games against good teams before you shoot your mouth off about Glover. If he was in the portal, he would be one of the most highly-sought after point guards in the country. As for Omar, his deficiencies will not be masked by playing for Jacksonville. He will get plenty of playing time, but he has a lot to learn if he is going to make a living playing basketball. I believe that he is much better suited to play the 4, and I hope that he is moved to that position.
I am doing it. Remember when our posters were saying that Kasey Hill would start over Wilbekin? In my old age, I am speaking out about some of the nonsense.
He projects as a 4. He even made it into a mock draft list as a 4, although at around #100. He can guard the four. His shooting form isn’t bad. He would be facing the basket, so he should be able to see the ball coming off the rim better. He should be able to block shots from the 4. He should be able to straight line drive as well as pick and roll. Considering that we have rarely seen him play away from the basket, I don’t see how you can say he has no game away from the basket.
Well, I’ve never seen him play pg either… and yet I’m comfortable making that assessment also. The times ive seen him away from the basket have not provided any confidence. I also think guarding faster players and getting pulled out on the perimeter is likely to exacerbate his fouling issues.
He’s a fast and athletic player. He should be able to defend the 4 position. He has not learned how to play with his back to the basket. He has the size to play the 4 after college. I don’t think that he has the size to play the 5, even in Europe. Practically every player he was matched up against this past season was bigger than him. I don’t know whether he would succeed at the 4, but I think that position gives him his best chance to succeed. It’s a shame that he didn’t develop during his 2 years at UF.
i don’t think he has the size for the 5, nor the skill for the 4. I don’t think he has the work ethic for either. Perhaps Jordan can do what coaches prior have not…. tap into some potential. I think Omar made a good decision. And I think Mincy is an excellent and motivator. It’s “last chance u” for Payne.
I don’t have a clue as to his work ethic. The same thing was said about Scottie Lewis, I believe. I agree that he is running out of chances.
