Love it! Pat just had to change his podcast because if Castleton would have left, he had a show ready to blame it on UF fans.
This puts next season in a great light! Starting to shape up like a very good team. CC in the middle (and healthy), with JJ in the middle or alongside (and healthy), plus Reeves, Lane, Kennedy, Felder, and Jones, the transfer Will, plus two quality incoming freshmen. Land an experienced, high-level point guard and we'll be looking good.
<<"We're making the tournament next season, I'm telling you that right now," he added.>> Music to my ears. <<Castleton, for now (and subject to change, given the transfer portal), gives the team seven scholarship players returning from the '21-22 roster, joining forwards CJ Felder and Jason Jitoboh, plus guards Myreon Jones, Kowacie Reeves, Niels Lane and Eli Kennedy. A trio of players — forwards Anthony Duruji (NBA Draft) and Tuongthach Gatkek (transfer), plus point guard and No. 2 scorer Tyree Appleby (transfer) — have opted to move on. In turn, Golden and his new staff have been working feverishly the last couple weeks with portal prospects, having hosted a trio the last several days. UF still has two incoming freshman signees, California forward Jalen Reed and Orlando guard Denzel Aberdeen, on track to remain with the program. >> Still need a top flight PG but that's a core that can win. C Castelton/Jitoboh PF Felder/Reed SF Richard/Lane SG Reeves/Jones/Aberdeen PG ?/Kennedy
He was a reliable midrange shooter. I'm okay if he takes a few in early season creampuff matchups. If he can make some, them I'm okay if he takes them in tougher games, if left wide open and late in the shot clock. If he could work on a killer hook shot, he'd be unstoppable.
CC is one of my all time favorite gator bball to watch. Love his game and intensity. This is great news!
1 attempt per game would be considered "more" so...it might have been a selling point as that would add another dimension to his game. His mid range jumper looked pretty nice this year
This. I'm always amazed how poorly even NBA players box out (or don't) at times, but we were atrocious last year. It's all just discipline and accountability - including the guards
The way he talks makes me think he knows there may be a couple more pieces that fall into our lap. I hope at least.
Supposedly he came back last season to show he could be a stretch NBA 4. But yeah, that didn't happen.
One of my main frustrations with White was that he would never play a big lineup. I don't know who else Golden will recruit, but given the players listed above and our poor rebounding stats, I hope Golden at least considers playing Castleton and Jitoboh together early in the year.
Woo Hoo! Thanks for this news! I am traveling near Santa Fe NM and had been wondering about bigs for next year. I was starting to think we were going to have to keep hammering the portal!
