Biden, "Buy an electric car and you will save $80 per month" He obviously didn't do the math.

    This!

I don't have the patience to address a lot of the absurdity in this thread, but when simply making price calculations on a vehicle, depreciation is everything. It's the largest factor, followed by maintenance, then fuel.

    EVs crush in all three.

I'm with you. We keep our cars an average of about 15 years. I drive a 2012 Civic Hybrid that still gets 44mpg and is in perfect working order. We though about a Leaf or VW ID4, and we can certainly afford one. But the Civic is paid off, and our oldest is a junior in high school. Going to wait to see how much college costs before getting a new car.

By the way, I did the math when we bought the Hybrid back in 2012 about cost savings versus buying a regular Civic. Came out to be about 10 years or about 120,000 miles before you make up the price difference. I figure, I have another 4-5 years of savings before it's time for another car.

The arrogance in this post. You do know that the average liberal is more intelligent than the average conservative, right? And that there are actual studies that bare this out. Almost all scientists and doctors in the world today lean left. Meanwhile, conservatives want to keep the world like it’s 1950 again with their constant inability to adapt or accept change.

As a pharmacist myself, I can afford the gas prices as well, but I’m not garbage human being and care about my fellow men and women who aren’t as lucky. By the way, Nissan Leafs, and many hybrids, as stated in this thread previously, are very affordable and don’t have the long term maintenance to maintain like ICE vehicles. It’s a no brainer, really.

Come on guys. Nothing is to be gained by these blanket statements. Democrats are stupid ... Republicans are dumb ... Liberals are poor ...

If that's really all you have to offer, it doesn't speak well ....

Also, don't insult the OP. Just point out how he's wrong.

And @dadx4, you bring this on yourself. You really should have thought this through a little rather that simply quote a flaky website like that.

I guess I'm too dumb to understand what you're saying in your first paragraph about the lower footprint.

Now we know where the descendant children and grandchildren of the designers of the AMC Pacer are. They work in the design department at Nissan.

I have to laugh at these threads. I want to ask the OP, if saving $80/month on a car will take ages to cover the cost of the entire car, then how long will it take to cover the cost of an ICE car AND pay an extra $80/month? Answer: Never.

The other thing that is not taken into account regarding the pay off period is that Americans for the most part don't keep a car for 10 years.
A sizeable percentage lease and just accept that they are going to have a car payment for the rest of their lives and switch out to a new one every 3 or 4 years.
I personally keep mine until the repair bills start exceeding a monthly car payment (still have a 2005 330ci that runs perfectly).

Whats closer to the truth is that many right wingers see EV's as a great option and support the research and development of the market and are excited about the future... But yeah what you said will get you some nice blue likes so keep owning us baby!
Politics be damned: Electric cars aren't really so polarizing

..and here you are making their point. This is silly. Gas was not cost effective when moving from horse and buggy. Glad they didnt stop there.

Seriously this extreme pov for one another is maddening.

Not cost effective? Are you serious? Petroleum revolutionized the world. I don't know of any more practical, cost effective energy source than petroleum.

I'm all in favor of reducing our dependence on petroleum. I plan on buying an EV as a backup car. I would love to see the world transition to sustainable resources. Oil ain't going to be there forever and if we don't develop a practical replacement, we'll be back to pre-industrial days.

One major benefit of petroleum fuel is the increased release of carbon dioxide. Instead of reducing CO2, we should be increasing it. You probably don't realize plants need CO2 to survive. The climate change wackos are just using you for yet another scam to dig into your pockets. And you fall for it every time.
