Biden, "Buy an electric car and you will save $80 per month" He obviously didn't do the math.

If you have to buy a car anyway you’re talking about the difference in the two…. and that puts no value on pollution reduction or feeling good about yourself. :)

    Truth be told,

I like most conservatives, really don't care about gas prices, we will still buy it even if it cost's $10.00 a gallon because we can afford it. We just like to throw it in your faces.

I'm sure there are a lot more progressives that cannot afford it and they are now coming to the realization that elections have consequences.

Onward to $ 10.00 a gallon - when oil companies make money - my shares increase in value (Exxon is up 35.18% in the last 6 months)

The average transaction price for a new car is currently $45k. The cheapest EV available today is a Nissan Leaf, available for under $30k. If someone wants to buy an EV today and save on ongoing gas expenses, options exist...

I was also going to add that the cost of used Nissan Leaf can be well under $20,000 depending on the year.

I don't know what's closer to the truth. Right wingers are so dumb they don't see the problem with this calculation or they are so properly brainwashed that they never take the time to analyze it.

Indeed, the intellectual incoherence and lack of principles is the greatest strength of conservativism, you can literally get mad at or defend all sides of any issue whenever it suits you

Does anyone listen to Sleepy Joe anymore? He may be the most corrupt, incompetent person in the United States. The only person I can think of that is a bigger idiot is his esteemed Vice President.

The environmental wackos believe the EV will save the planet. Forget that fact that virtually all EVs are charged using coal and oil (and nuclear). Forget that fact that it takes 500,000 pounds of ore to be mined for each car battery.

Progressives (ie communists) are unbelievably dumb. I wish there was a legal cure.

Where does anyone say EVs will save the planet? What EVs can do, and actually do, is have a lower, average carbon footprint than ICE vehicles. Generally takes a year to 18 months of driving before the ICE vehicle has a lower footprint than the ICE vehicle, depending on make, model, driver behavior, etc.

As for costs, this is a good comparison of total 5-year cost to own of a Nissan Leaf versus a Toyota Corolla Hybrid, done from an Australian site. The Leaf costs about $10k more than the Corolla, but after 5 years, total costs are only about $3k different. And this analysis was done Sept. 2020, when gas prices were low.

But as a progressive, I'm guess I'm just too dumb to understand any of this?

Exactly this, buying any car is gonna cost atleast 30k luxury cars so probably 40k. So at most it's 15k. The tesla are also holding their values better than ice cars. That and maintenance is almost zero. I think it's a no brainer to buy. I keep my cars forever. When my ac goes out on my 2001 Ford explorer sportrac, I am hoping to be able to get a cybertruck.
