Which limits his influence in some ways. He is no longer permitted to own more than 14.9% of the company now that he is on the boards.

The problem is, "misinformation" is very, very subjective. It shouldn't be, but it is. One person's truth is another person's misinformation.

Not really. Some things really are true and some things really are false.

Twitter is very US-based, which is why it has less reach than something like Telegram, which is minor in the US, but is extensively used in Eastern Europe, or Qzone, which is a big deal in China but not really used outside of that.

I know it sounds weird, but if you watch documentaries on him, he really isn’t motivated by money. He has a few pillars that he thinks would make the world a better place, and that’s where he focuses his attention. He wanted to help democratize the internet so he helped make paypal. He wanted to help protect our resources here so he founded Tesla, and he wanted to help save humankind from eventual extinction so he founded SpaceX. And with spacex, he poured everything one of his personal dollars into it from PayPal, if his last test hadn’t worked, he would have been broke. So Twitter and free speech fall very much into that same bucket.
He also sold all seven of his homes so he could focus on the mission to Mars (again keeping with what he cares about), and lives in a condo rental worth 50k. Maybe he has us all fooled, but even folks close to him say the same thing. He’s just a different cat.

I checked Putie’s Twitter and almost every post is “had a meeting with foreign leader xyz today”. I’m not sure anything in it technically violates the Twitter TOS. Unless Putin has some separate personal account where he tweets more, the official one isn’t particularly active (hasn’t tweeted in weeks?).

I think Twitter, unlike some of the others in response to Russia, is trying to keep looking at it at an “account level TOS” basis. It seems rather crazy, as obviously the Russians abuse the hell out of these platforms with bot/troll farms and whatnot to spread various types of propoganda and misinformation to the west… so I don’t know how they separate that from the Russian govt. But unlike some others that decided to cut off the Russian govt official channels, Twitter is leaving the official channels up, and going to continue playing whack-a-mole with the bot/troll accounts that are also somewhat obviously sponsored by the Russian govt.

    That's essentially all it is.

You think it should be completely unbound? Racism, sexism ... everything goes? If someone doesn't like what you post and they find out where you live, it's OK to post your address and photos of your kids?

Oh really? Who is the arbitrator of what is “hate” speech? Is for example mentioning someone’s baldness “hate speech” if that person doesn’t like to be reminded of it? “Hate speech is such an objective term ripe for abuse. And I seem to remember Twitter suspending the NewYork Post for “misinformation” even though it wasn’t in order to not hurt Biden’s chances before the 2020 election.

So what is it? Are you in favor of censorship or opposed? That's a yes or no question.
