Nice win in dominating fashion last night. Amazingly, the first championship game defeat ever for Geno. UConn never gave up, but USC was just too strong on the offensive glass.
South Carolina's Defense was harassing. They got after it. crazy too, only 11 total fouls for South Carolina, and UCONN only had 4 Free throws the entire game -- made 1! Never seen that before 1-4 from the line, with 1 made free throw throw the entire game.
And THAT is precisely the story of the game. SC defense was relentless from the opening tip. It was hard to process when the commentators noted a UConn player was about to shoot only the “3rd and 4th free throws of the game” for them….I think towards the end of the 3rd qtr (or early start of the 4th ?). Unbelievable
Huge win for USCe, man those girls pound the glass. What a historic win for them, Coach A's 11-0 streak was a remarkable achievement, what a program they have at UCONN, but I'm glad an SEC team knocked them off that perch. Seems like the SEC and S Carolina in particular under Dawn is a formidable obstacle to UCONN domination once again (Pat Summit). Glad UCONN has some competition recently, I was getting tired of them reeling off 100 straight................
Nothing special, probably a step above the gators womens team maybe. Looks like in year 6, she really began to take the program to the next level, with success in year 4 and 5 (making the tourney). Pat Summit retired right around her year 6 where South Carolina then became top dog in the SEC. The defensive intensity last night was another level and the PG honestly embarrassed Bueckers -- Bueckers had no chance guarding her. She just blew by her. Bueckers also had to fight for all 14 of her points. I've always wonder this though -- why can women volleyball players jump through the roof, but basketball players can't? Aliyah Boston is 6'5, she should be dunking on peoples heads all day.
Defense (without fouling) and rebounding wins championships. I don't I've ever seen UCONN get physically dominated like that since the days of Candace Parker at Tennessee.
Virginia has to be kicking itself. They had the chance to hire Dawn Staley (2011) before she got things rolling at South Carolina.
