"You got slapped on your face, big disgrace, Somebody better put you back into your place, do it!" - Will Smith (probably)
Just heard something really cynical (which they acknowledged) on "The Big Picture" podcast. How to goose Oscar ratings. Co hosted next year by...Will Smith and Chris Rock. Of course, will would be presenter as well by tradition. But wow
Hope Will doesn't get cancelled permanently. He's a great talent and until now, was well liked and respected by his colleagues. We've all done worse things but didn't have the cameras running.
I tend to agree that there’s been far worse…including at the Oscars. Like an actor trying to violently attack a Native American woman and having to be held back by six security guards and an actor who sexually assaulted a female actor on the Oscar stage.
One thing that's interesting to me is that unlike with many topics, the opinions and couple polls I've seen thus far don't seem to break down clearly by gender, race, or party affiliation. I did see one poll suggesting that younger people were more likely to support Will and older folks more likely to support Chris. Maybe it's just because they're more likely to have seen his movies than watch Chris' stand up. Part of me wonders whether any difference by age is because younger people are more likely to view words themselves as constituting violence. That's a concept I somewhat understand in very extreme situations, but seems like a very bad precedent/mind-set generally. That's especially true in a society where so many people are armed and can shoot you and claim they feared for their safety.
Its amazing that people can be like "booing during a speech you dont like is cancel culture" and bad, but slapping a guy for speech in the same exact context is summary justice for said cancel culture. Cognitive dissonance is amazing stuff.
You know this will somehow get in every one of chris rocks standup, is that your wife, can I make a joke or something. And OJ,smdh, but somehow he can cut to the heart of the issue.
So apparently, Will was asked to leave the oscars and refused. Pretty sure isn’t gonna be back next year. https://www.cnbc.com/2022/03/30/wil...n-from-academy-after-slapping-chris-rock.html
