We'll see if they strip him of his Oscar or simply don't invite him back ever again. Lowkey I know they're loving the buzz, though.

Smith is getting a pass because he is black. If a white actor slapped Rock, Hollywood would be screaming a different tune this morning.

And, let’s be fair, you know it was some mid level writer that wrote it.

Like John Wayne who was held accountable for trying to attack a woman at the Oscars?

Yep, white people are the real victims here. *eyeroll*

Completely different era and Wayne was restrained and didn't actually assault her. And if he did, he should be held accountable as well.

It's bizarre hearing so many people justify a physical response to....words. if this happens anywhere else someone is getting arrested. Buddy of mine says you gotta defend your wife's honor. Great. "Defend" her honor with battery then go to jail and maybe lose your job. Lose your ability to support and protect your family because once again....words.

Completely different era. Where white people could try to attack Native American women at will. *eyeroll*

Those really were the good old days for you, weren’t they?

But it’s really amazing that you can take an event at the Oscars that has nothing to do with White people and turn it into a White victimization narrative.

The real irony is Smith’s character in King Richard has a couple scenes about this exact thing. Containing anger and not resorting to violence when disrespected in front of his family. And then he succumbs to those impulses eventually.

Rock probably thought joke would be better received and she would laugh with him. But joke was out of line. That line of humor, insults and snarky comments and laugh-at-their-expense, is where this award show has gone to for years. everyone there knows it and just hope it doesn’t land on them. If smith’s slap is now the precedent, there could be a lot more insulted actors punching presenters. You can’t go to a performance and get up and punch the comedian.

And what part do you miss where he was restrained from actually attacking her? Meaning security did their job. They didn't allow Wayne to attack her. No one stopped Smith and then they still allowed him to stay for the rest of the night to cheers and applause.
Tell me again that if a Smith level white actor slapped Rock, that the Hollywood elites wouldn't be screaming for his head this morning.

    That’s still assault buddy.

Dude, once again, the fact that you turn this into an issue where White people are the victim is outright embarrassing for you.

Hollywood has done an amazing job of looking the other way with White male perpetrators of things more severe than simple battery for decades. Just like people like you. So spare me your faux victimization.

Totally agree. Absolutely zero excuse for what he did. He should never be invited back.

If you're playing a lead in a Sidney Lumet courtroom drama, you've got big shoes to fill. Lumet always got the best performances from his actors, even if they were inexperienced.

I wouldn't have thought it of Smith, he always seems so chill. Slapping Rock was uncalled for, very bad behavior, for which there is no excuse. The whole thing was so bizarre, so staged-ish, I'm not surprised people think it was staged.

Will Smith should have been escorted out. I think a drunk Sean Young was thrown out of an awards show years ago.

edit. SY was thrown out of the Directors Guild of America for drunken heckling. She was also arrested for raising hell at an Oscar's party.

Admit it, when we saw “Yo yo Taylor, I’m gonna let you finish…” the immediate reaction was that that was staged too.

And they shouldn't have done that. But because they did, it's all ok now to let this slide? It's hypocritical.
Not embarrassed at all just speaking the truth.

    Let’s see, shall we?

Roman Polanski, Woody Allen, Harvey Weinstein, Michael Douglas, Douglas Hoffman, Richard Dreyfuss, Paul Haggis, James Franco, Kevin Spacey, Casey Affleck, Mel Gibson, Arthur Freed, Joan Crawford, Clark Gable…

Dude. Just take the L. You’ve already embarrassed yourself enough.
