Google what he did as an assistant coach at Iowa.

Deon Thomas was legit recruited to Illinois and Bruce Pearl kept calling him in the middle of the night trying to say that he wasn't.

Eventually the Illini were investigated by the NCAA but there was nothing with the Deon Thomas recruitment. They were sanctioned because two players that were going to the NBA had their parents co-sign for the purchase of a vehicle. This was considered as a benefit that other students did not have.

Illinois should have paid the mothers for jobs they did not do.

This is all subjective. There's no need to insult people's intelligence.

For example, without commenting on the specifics of the OP's rankings, doesn't the quality of the program matter? If White fails to make the tournament for the next few years at UGA, will that mean he's regressed as a coach or will that mean the chances of success at UF were higher when White inherited a program with a recent history of massive success and exposure? Does Kermit Davis deserve a lower ranking for underperforming White when Davis was at Ole Miss and White was at Florida? Shouldn't Ole Miss be expected to be below Florida if they have coaches of equal caliber?

From my perspective, you can't even rank the new coaches moving up from small schools yet. We have no data on how they'll recruit and coach in SEC. So most of the list, to me, is TBD.

I would think it is virtually impossible to have much of an opinion on most of the new coaches and wont comment on some of the absurd rankings of White.
However, Ive never thought Buzz was a great coach, certainly not top tier or 4th best in the sec and Kermit, well the results speak for themselves in his case. Barnes is a very good coach, tho a disappointing post season coach. At least he doesnt have the plague of ncaa scandal in his past that I am aware of, like Pearl and Cal.
So in other words no #1.:p

I think he also said that the barbecue was kosher, but it wasn’t.

I didn’t rank the coaches and any poll out there from posters that have ranked that has White at 13-14 is a joke! And if insulting peoples intelligence or lack of .. so be it .

I didn’t rank them either. And I also would not put White so low. I’d have him in the middle of the pack, but I’m guessing you’d put him much higher. In any event, I don't feel the need insult the intelligence of those who hold White in lower regard than I do. So be it, as you say, but the boards would be better for everyone without insults over differences of opinion.

We’ll see eventually whether White is an excellent coach or just a decent one. Tubby Smith won at UGA. Hugh Durham won there too. If White isn’t successful, it won’t be UGA’s fault.

I’m not impressed with either stackhouse or Kermit. I’d take any of the new young guns over them all day any day.

due to inherant biases - I should have left Coach Bulldog White off the list.

the reality playing Kentucky, tenn, auburn, and Arkansas during the regular season is a tough Schedule. I think Kentucky, tenn and auburn all were undefeated at home this year.

He is definitely at the bottom with Stack and Kermit Davis in terms of those who are returning.

Two out of three of the lists above place McMahan ahead of Golden. Apparently, our AD did not.

Does anyone have a persuasive argument one way or the other? They played one another to a tie in the NCAA, before McMahan won in OT. But Golden had just lost his best big man to injury a couple of games before.

Did you leave something out or type this incorrectly? How could it be a violation for a parent to co-sign a car loan for their own child?

I’m neither young nor peaceful. I’ve practiced law for 29 years and have been through countless knock down drag out litigation fights. I’ve also been on these boards since the 90s, usually on the insider ones. And I’ve seen many lengthy, petty tirades because people insult the poster rather than rebutting the argument. Cest la vie.

Okay, predict which of the mid-major coaches will do the best: White at Ga., Golden at Florida (yeah us), Gates at Mizzou, Mamahan at LSU or the guy at South Carolina.

I don’t see a credible argument for having White over any coach excluding Stackhouse

The new coaches are not proven but they all have upside.

White is a known commodity. Id much rather have an unknown with upside versus a known bad coach

White is a known bad commodity. He isn’t a good game day coach. His attrition is massive. He doesn’t adapt style to players. He is ancient in his basketball thinking (compare that to Golden). His recruiting is decent.

There isn’t an ounce of evidence that he’s in the same universe as Cal, Buzz, Pearl, Barnes, etc.

So the comp is Kermit Davis. Davis was much better at the mid major than White was. And Ole Miss has been about where they were prior to Davis compared to White torpedoing Florida. I feel confident saying if Davis and White flipped schools over the last 4-5 years that Florida would have done better. But they are close, I wouldn’t fight the point if you had White above Davis

That doesn’t mean White is awful. He’s a legit NCAA coach. He’d be a good mid major coach. In a power conference he’s well below average. There just isn’t any evidence to counter that.

Because it was based on their soon to be NBA careers the NCAA thought it was a benefit that other students didn't get. IIRC the loans for the Blazers were approved and then the parents had to co-sign as a CYA.

    I didn't get it either.

Didn't a Duke player get a $10K loan from Tiffany's for "bling" because he was going to soon have an NBA contract? The NCAA had no problem with that.
