I think you find out a lot about someone during the Q&A. Golden is clearly a high level thinker. Extremely articulate and prepared. Couldn't have been more impressed with his answers.

Watched it online, and I feel great with him going forward.

Dude will connect with players, recruits, and fans!

And to boot, said we should expect championships here, unlike what many of the Gator beat writers tell us.

Even better, he even said it would have been a red flag if championships were NOT the expectation. Love how Coach Golden embraces the challenge!

awesome press conference, this guy's confidence is infectious. Loved the comment about improving our shooting, it's something that coach White never paid enough attention to but is absolutely necessary to build a winning program in the modern era. And I also loved his answer on whether expectations at UF are too high and saying how he loved having high expectations and would have been concerned if they weren't.

coach Golden definitely says all the right things and makes a great impression - next step is to get us back on the winning track and I'm very excited about seeing how he approaches that.

Well spoken at ease with the press! Finally.
Spoke about Australia and Europe in recruiting. Finally someone who gets it. A walk-on who by nature is very competitive. Hopefully we will get news daily as he gets new coaches and recruits. Hopefully he will push the NIL to help get the athletes that fit Florida and his team. He needs to recruit sponsors for this and it will pay benefits as star recruits are gathered in Gainseville. Hopefully he will talk to refs throughout the games. This is critical in this physical league. Too many injuries due to refs letting the games get away from them. This is a delicate thing to do, but it has to be done to be an elite coach. Color me excited that he is comfortable with the press! Now let’s get it on!

Love how Coach said shooting and defensive rebounding has to improve and if that gets fixed, he expects to get back into the dance next year. That got me pumped. If Florida gets back in the dance next year, what a feat that would be.

I wonder if Dooley will criticize him for having such expectations.

How do you get some one to improve their shooting besides taking 1000s of shots? Hand placement?

I'm not a basketball coach but I would say:

    1) Knowing what is a good shot and what isn't
    2) Shooting form (feet, hands, etc)

If I knew how to improve someones shooting I wouldn't be an IT nerd and I'd be a highly paid basketball shooting instructor :)

yup, tweaking mechanics like that is one way to improve your team's shooting. Still have to put in the 1000s of shots afterwards though.

you can also just go get some new players who shoot the ball better than the last bunch :D

It all starts with running an offense that generates good shots. No more standing around and watching. You have to move and adapt to how the defense is playing you. I don't think we had particularly bad shooters. They were just not getting good shots in the rhythm of the offense. (OK, maybe a couple weren't very good shooters too).

The other thing I expect to change is guys' confidence in their shots. Too often our guys were shooting like they were hoping to make it instead of like they knew it was going to go in. The exception, IMO was Reeves.

Regardless of what Mike White does the rest of his career, he was mediocre here. I wonder if Georgia’s prowess in football will happen to help their hoops recruiting. But if I’m a recruit I know CMW’s so-far mediocrity is not likely to change just because he’s at a different school.

If he’s talking to Donovan, he might get this advice:

    Layups, dunks, and Lee Humphrey

White is a good coach, IMO. But he wasn't a great one. Kudos to Stricklin for making it clear to White that "good" wasn't going to cut it.

Because he's a good coach, White will improve UGA's program. They are horrible and have been for a long time. Squeaking into the Tournament as an 11 seed will get him a parade.

Coach Golden impressed me immensely today. I think he will get us to a higher level where we are consistently waiting to see our seed in the Tournament rather than sweating out whether we'll make it at all. Maybe not next year, but soon.

I think both programs are better off now.

"Very rarely will you see less than 4 players on the court who can dribble, pass, and shoot at an insanely high level."
    Todd Golden

Warms the cockles of my heart. Really I just love the confidence. It has been missing.
