Any word on how are recruits are reacting to Todd Golden being named coach. I think most people feel he is going to look hard at the transfer portal but I actually like our class. If we can keep Reeves and Kennedy and our recruits I believe we have a nice mix with some help from the portal. What are your thoughts?
Home boy was just announced Friday. Patience. Golden already said that he was reaching out to the incoming recruits and was going to reach out to the current players but was waiting for their NIT run to complete.
I like the sound of our incoming class, but I do think we need a solid transfer or two to compete for an NCAAT bid next year. More if we have any defections. Maybe Coach Golden will bring a transfer with him from San Francisco.
4 out of the top 5 players in his rotation were either Seniors or Graduate Students so I don't know if that might be an option but I think there will be plenty of opportunities to find a few pieces for next year depending on what we end up needing.
In really good news Denzel Aberdeen is still committed. Can he keep Reed and somehow get Reneau back would be incredible. Certainly a good start to keep Aberdeen. Buddy Collings @VarsityBuddy Dr. Phillips guard @denzelorlando3 remains committed to UF according to DP coach Ben Witherspoon, who confirmed that on Wednesday.
Europe, Europe and more Europe...that's how we're going to build this team. Can't believe these recruits were so tied to White. Still months away from the start of the season, so let's see if CTG can still pull some rabbits out of his hat.
I think you’re absolutely correct, an influx of euro players. However, thanks to Christian Drejer, Nimrod Tishman, I want to temper my expectations. There are great European players, don’t get me wrong, but I just think it might be a difficult jump from Euro ball straight to SEC ball. Am I wrong?
Kevin Boyle, coach at Montverde, said that Todd Golden is not giving up on Malik Reneau, 5 star power forward. He said that it's possible that Malik could still end up being a Gator. This came from an article in the Sun Sentinal.
The issue is that most SEC-level players in Europe have already been signed to professional contracts by major clubs by the time they're of college age. Some do slip through the cracks but it's a small percentage.
That’s good news, but assuming Castleton goes we are hurting in the front court and will rrrrrreeeeaaally need to keep Reed at least. Obviously it would be huge to get Reneau back in the fold, but once they decommit it’s pretty rare to come back and re-commit, so I’m not counting on that. But if he could keep at least 1 of the bigs that’s one less hole to fill via transfer or late recruiting. The good news is with this portal thing, even a brand new coach can possibly work some portal magic. In the old world of recruiting we’d be just about writing off this coming year already, but with transfers you can at least plug a few holes right away on top of adding a late signee or two (from a coaching change or whatever). So while it’s not fair to expect Golden to pull a miracle in year 1, there isn’t an excuse to not at least be a similarly competitive team (but I’m mostly going to judge the new coach on whether we appear to be a “smarter” and better prepared team).
Wonder what he is getting paid. He took less money to coach at UF when hired away from okie state. That is ludicrous to me. No way should okie state offer more $ to assistant coaches than UF. Could be Georgia bumped him way up.
