UF softball improved to 26-3 with a 7-0 win at Stetson. Lexie Delbrey threw 5 innings, gave up only 1 hit, 2 walks with 7 K's. Natalie Lugo pitched the last 2 innings and gave up 1 hit, no walks with 3 K's. The Gators had 10 hits and 5 walks and were led by Charla Echols, with 2 hits, including a HR, and 3 RBI. Cheyenne Lindsey went 3-3 with an RBI, Kendra Falby went 2-4 with a triple and stolen base and Reagan Walsh hit a HR. The teams are supposed to play again in Gainesville Wednesday at 6 pm, but there's a good chance it will be rained out.
Was this game on TV? Is there any explanation for not sending Lindsey from 3B when there was 1st/3rd a steal attempt at 2B which drew the throw? I thought Lugo looked very good. Like everyone says, Delbrey's gonna be awesome when she gets some control. She threw a one hitter in her five innings, but it was still shotgun style. Lots of Gator fans present who gave appreciative cheers to Roe for some pretty excellent blocks and jack-in-the-box catches. Roe played 3B for the last inning -- respect for CTW getting some actual game time for position depth. Longley played 1B. Hopefully never will be the need, but good to have the experience. Game was a sell-out -- reserved seats gone weeks before the game, general admission sold out in the last week. Gator fans travel well!
Just watched Oklahoma run rule Kentucky. Oklahoma has now run ruled 22 of their 26 opponents. Incredible. I'd be surprised if they loose a game this year.
Yeah, OU looks superhuman. They are a couple of steps better than anyone else. Hate to say it, but I got them WCWS champs.
"Is there any explanation for not sending Lindsey from 3B when there was 1st/3rd a steal attempt at 2B which drew the throw?" Same here. I was shocked and dismayed Lindsey didn't break for home. Were there 2 outs? Sam Roe is going to be big time and is getting there fast. She can hit. Hit with power. Run and play D. Don't recall seeing her throw to 2nd yet, however. Don't think this team is championship quality without being able to rely on Delbrey against SEC competition. Maybe we'll see this weekend.
They’re good, but I’d like to see them play good competition. Kentucky is good, but they don’t have the pitching to challenge a team like OU. OU should’ve lost once already to Tennessee, but they gave it away on an error. Maybe they’ll draw a tough match in supers.
yep, they are 2-0 vs RPI Q1(1-25) teams. UCLA 4-1, & Vols 9-8. 12-0 vs Q3(51-100) Latest RPI rankings.. D1Softball.com's College Baseball RPI
Nope -- one out. I looked at CTW to see whether he'd say something to Lindsay about missing the play, but it was business as usual so maybe 1B (can't remember who is was, but she was out) wasn't supposed to go. Agreed that we're not there yet, but we don't have to be! In his press conferences, CTW has said the plan is for Delbrey to be the go-to reliever for Hightower/Lugo but I'd like to see her improve her way into a starting role.
The Stetson woman's lacrosse team is currently across the street at Dizney Stadium, where UF is up 6-0 in the first period. Maybe the weather is worse on the north side of Hull Road?
Going into the weekend series vs. Tennessee, the Gators are 3rd in the SEC with a team batting average of .352, behind Georgia & Kentucky. Tennessee is last with a team BA of .285. Tennessee is tied for 5th in home runs with 43, while the Gators are next to last with only 23. We are 2nd in runs scored with 205, Tennessee is 9th with 178. We have the fewest strikeouts with 99, the Vols are 11th with 150. We lead the SEC in stolen bases with 73, Auburn is 2nd with 52, Tennessee is 3rd with 45. Surprisingly, to me, the Gators lead the SEC in ERA at 1.61, UT is 6th at 2.56. We also lead in lowest opponent's batting average at .162; Tennessee is 3rd at .201. Our pitchers are 6th in K's with 178, UT is 11th with 156. Our pitchers have allowed the fewest hits, 106, but have the most walks, 92. UT is 4th in hits allowed, 139, and 5th in fewest walks allowed with 63. Should be an interesting, competitive series.
I think comparing our season stats to Tennessee is somewhat misleading because their SOS is #3 and Gators are #36. If you look at SEC stats Tenn is batting 282 to our 276. ERA is a better story....Tenn 3.71 Fla 2.45. Either way I expect Florida to win two this weekend with a good possibility of sweeping the series
How has Oklahoma become so dominant in the world of college softball. In 26 games they have hit 70 homeruns and have only been scored on 23 times. To me those numbers are staggering.
