He seems to be an excellent hire except for the fact that Samford beat Chattanooga this season led by our former 19th-string point guard who led the way with 20 points and 5 assists.
Not disagreeing, just that "testing the waters" isn't the same as having it appear in the media that you tried and failed. If nothing had been brought to anyone's attention and you ended up with Paris, I think there would be more optimism. Swinging for the fences and missing looks like a loss but that is like not getting every fence-sitting HS signee on THE signing day. Personally, I think you got the better coach, given the history.
I mentioned my opinion earlier, Frank Martin might be the greatest human on the planet and developing young men and turning them into excellent adults - But the bottom line at South Carolina, he wasn't really anything special. It was 100% worth the risk to get a new fresh face in there to see if they can make South Carolina basketball relevant. He had a good run at Kstate, but not at South Carolina. School since 2001 has only made the tourney twice --you have to go back to Frank McGuire in the 70s to when they consistently were able to win.
It’s not about Paris, it’s about how the whole process was handled by an AD who doesn’t need to be one. This is the same guy who hired Will Muschamp and then gave him a contact extension and a huge buyout. He should have stuck to coaching baseball, because since he’s retired and has made the last 2 hires in baseball it’s been downhill. Our once great baseball program which we could brag about is now a dumpster fire.
