I thought there was an exception with a coaching change. I could be wrong.

You may be right. I think technically we still have to release him, and we would, obviously. Just the way the article is written seems dumb to me. You’re not really “decommitting” or “reopening your recruitment” after you sign. You’re transferring or asking to be released from your loi.

So I’m pretty much right, but it really doesn’t matter. The end result is the same, and I don’t think we’d make a kid file an appeal. I think we would just release them if requested. The article does explicitly say, a coaching change is not grounds for a release though, so in theory we could fight it, and make the process more difficult. That just makes you look dumb and petty though, and he can still leave via the portal with a free pass anyway.

This is exactly what I was afraid of with this hire. No one knows who Todd Golden is in the high school ranks, especially here in Florida. Getting talent out of Florida needs to be a huge priority and now Golden has to develop all new relationships. He's competing against a lot of schools and it's an uphill battle with coaches already having relationships with these coaches.

We still don't know if Golden can recruit. I tried looking up San Francisco basketball recruiting and I couldn't even find anything because all of SF's players were transfers or overseas guys. That's incredibly risky to hire the new coach of Florida not knowing if he can recruit at a high level and hasn't even been doing so the last few years. If Florida stinks for the next couple of years, recruiting isn't going to all of the sudden get easier.

Of course, I'm hoping for the best and Coach seems very energetic and likeable. How that will translate remains to be seen, but if he doesn't bring in top talent, it doesn't matter how good of an x's and o's coach he is. Obviously losing Reneau isn't his fault and the other recruits should they most likely follow suit. I hope it's 1 step back and 2 steps forward for Florida Basketball, but no one can really say how this will work out except to support the new coach and hope for the best.

I'm sure you know this, but you don't want to be the school that appears to make it difficult for commits to back out of or get released from. That'd just ensure that recruits wouldn't sign ahead of time with you in the future. Most programs seem to know that you just let the kid go where they want and that resisting this only hurts the program.

I wonder if part of the reason for him leaving the class is he expects Pastrana to leave or has been told he will.

    Lol at some folks.

Mike White couldn't recruit according to some, but if he steals a 5* from us you will be mad at him.

Thats his job. If we want him improving our class we should have convinced him to stay. As it is, all bets are off.

Rooting for Golden to prove his stuff.

Golden is going to have his work cut out for him and things likely will get worse before they get better. Hope he has the stomach for this.

Gotta recruit and Florida is a great place to start. We need to pray he can keep Reed and Aberdeen. I’d also say gotta keep:
    Kowacie
    Big JJ
    Lane
    Gaktek
    Kennedy
Like to see Duruji and Felder back also.
With these 7 + Aberdeen and Reed you’ve got 9 that form the basis of a solid group BUT we’d need to add 3 guards as this group is way light on guards. Perhaps 1 of Jones or Appleby coming back would really help. Right now Kennedy and 1 of them is a start but at least 2 transfers would need to be brought in.

I said “we would, obviously” and it would be “dumb and petty” not to. I’m not trying to force anyone to stay here, just saying you don’t “decommit” or “reopen your recruitment” AFTER you sign. You transfer or you ask to be released from your loi.

I’ve also already said it really doesn’t matter as the end result is the same. My gripe is with the, yet again, lazy/ignorant reporting, not the kid leaving.

Wow!! We???? Speak for yourself. I have watched/rewatched every basketball every season. So you root against the coach? That in turn also means you root against the Gator players... which means you root against the Gators?? I come on to this board to support the team and share observations.

This hiring of Golden instead of a head liner... a lot of the NBN Hall of famers got exactly what they deserved chasing Mike White out... SS just humbled the arrogant Gator Basketball fans FOREVER.

6 year contract. Get to watch average players do Analytics as we race with Georgia to see who is going to finish with more wins the next two years.

Then the excitement starts in year three when the clamor on this board is that we haven't made the NIT in two years. That's when the rooting against the coach starts?

Lost our top recruit. Reed will follow.

We have 6 players returning. Kowacie can transfer to any Blue blood he wants. Kentucky or Auburn would take him in a heart beat. Lane the way he played would have a market for his talents.

The 5 remaining players would likely not start for any of the top half of the SEC.

That means 8 transfers next year. Roster totally turned over in two years.

I have had to listen to you guys root against the coach for the last three years. The only good thing that has come of all this... At least I don't have to read about how much the coach sucks. For now...

Arguably, you are the worst poster on this board. My only uncertainty is whether it is even arguable. All you do is come on here and blast other posters.
